My best buddy Boo is very ill (cat thread)
My Boo hasn't been eating or going to the litter box for about 24 hours. I came home today to find that he had vomited clear liquid all over the house and he was obviously in pain. The vet was very concerned and had us take him to the hospital immediately. My brother left about 10 minutes ago (I had to stay here with our medically challenged dog). I am worried sick. I am so close to my cat. He sleeps with me every night and is the most affectionate feline I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He is only 8 years old. Please send some positive thoughts for Boo.

My sweet friend Boo

... I know how worried, concerned and helpless you must be feeling. Sour stomach ailments are hard to diagnose... so our mind always imagines the worst. I hope it all works out well and that Boo is feeling better by morning.

My precious little guy had these same symptoms last year. It turned out to be Kidney problems, but after some treatment and some medicine, he felt so much better. He is as happy, healthy and active as he has ever been. I hope that you have the same outcome:)

Sending good thoughts and hugs, and I hope that you can be reunited with Boo very soon.

20. Thank you all!
God, I'm a mess. This little guy has never been sick and it was obvious that something was very wrong. We have always had to watch him pretty closely because he tends to eat anything...rubber bands, toilet paper, and milk carton rings seem to be his favs. I'm really hoping that he doesn't have an obstruction of some kind.

Don't mind me. It's the not knowing that is the worst. I'm just a basket case right now.

and you, too. I see him curled up in bed with you, purring.

A friend's cat ate a vacuum cleaner belt, which was successfully removed without surgery, so there's hope even with major obstructions.

All five of my kitties join in hopes for Boo's rapid recovery. What would we do without our best friends?

35. Sending all good vibes to Boo and you, oxymoron...
I'm certainly no vet, but it does sound like an obstruction. Not to panic -- if it is, it can be removed, and vets do this all the time.

I totally understand how bonded one can get to their cross-species friend. I would be a basket-case if anything happened to my boy Dobbs.

Wishing Boo all the best for an excellent outcome to this setback -- and you hang in there, oxymoron. Let us know how it's going when you are updated...

40. Update
I just got another call and it looks very bad. They think his liver and kidneys are failing and that he might have diabetes. The doctor is keeping him overnight for some tests, but says that the prognosis is not good.

I have rescued a lot of animals over the years, but Boo has always been special. He is the most affectionate and loving cat that has ever been in my life. This is really breaking my heart.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts.

46. Diabetic cats are very managable
I have a cat who's had diabetes since she was 2, she's now going on 8 and besides giving her shots 2x a day (very simple to do), you'd never know she had it. Diabetes in cats is a lot easier on their systems then for humans or other animals, it's very managable.

The main symptoms are drinking excessive water and flooding the litterbox, and vomitting right after eating can occur too.

I hope your kitty pulls through fine and that everything will be okay. He's a handsome, smart looking cat. I know they're like our kids. My warmest thoughts go to you and your Boo.

61. If it's diabetes
Your vet may not be up to date. (Many aren't) I have 2 diabetic cats who are doing just fine (one for the last 3 years and his brother for almost a year now) and belong to a very caring board of FD (sugarcat) people who can get you through the worst of the first. You'll read about cats that have been living with diabetes for as much as 12 years.

Bad liver and kidney values are often seen when FD is first diagnosed but come back to normal with insulin and diet.

Go to http://www.felinediabetes.com/terms.htm and start gathering some of the info that's laid out for you. Diabetes is NOT a death sentence and doesn't take up your whole life, either. (My 2 take about 10 minutes a day, tops.)
