Don't know about Turkey, but Hot Dogs are not American. They were renamed during WWI just like "Freedom Fries" during the occupation of Iraq. Hot Dogs were "Frankfurter" before, hello from Germany, Dirk

I saw that translation reading "Anguished English", a compilation of bloopers by Richard Lederer.
I didn't know dogs in heat were American food--I did know they were American pets.

20. Soul food, southern cooking...barbeque?? |
|
When black folks were slaves, they got the leftover meat and foodstuffs, which is how soul food began. That's why we've got chitlins, etc. That's uniquely American....
I'd tend to think that most southern cooking is uniquely American...
Barbecuing too??

24. When I got home from spending a year in England, the first thing I |
|
ordered at a little restaurant somewhere in upstate NY was: A cheeseburger Fries Chocolate malt When the waitress asked if I wanted dessert, I said, "yes, please, another cheeseburger, some more fries, and another malt." Man, that was good.
NONE of that stuff tasted the same in England; the only decent burger I had the whole time I was there was at a restaurant in London that imported US beef; it was called "The American Hamberger" (sic) *lol*
Burgers in England were horrid; fries (chips) were OK if one could manage to get ketchup instead of vinegar and salt; and there was NOTHING like a chocolate malt...at the 'Wimpy Bars' the hamburgers were greasy and concave (picture a large contact lens made of chopped mystery meat, with a pool of grease in the middle) and their idea of a malt/shake was warm-ish milk with some flavoring in it, shaken up until it had bubbles on top. Ish. Love the Brits; much of the food leaves something to be desired. Authentic fish and chips is not too bad though; and I love Yorkshire pudding.

and it's very expensive. Ate that quite often in England. And of course, was introduced to the wonders of Cadbury's (which I am now, unfortunately, boycotting due to their advertising on Sinclair):-(

and Boston baked beans, if you live in New England area.
In the mid-west, where my mom is from, I'd say brats, corn on the cob, and cheese curds.
Overall, I'd say hamburgers, hot dogs, pepperoni pizza, Chinese take out, and tacos/burritos (any thing fast food).

You can't eat it but I use it as food because I drink 10 cups a day. Strong black coffee that will slap you right in the kisser just to wake your butt up.
The last cup that I had It woke me up for the rest of the night.

35. Meat and American Chop Suey. |
|
American Chop Suey... once you get the recipe down right, it can be pretty good.
Pot roast rules!
Meat... Porterhouse, Ribeyes, sirloin on the grill? What could be more American?
I'd rather eat my own vomit than anything that resembles French cooking. :puke:
True story... way back when I was in 8th grade, we had a field trip along the Freedom Trail in Boston. For some strange reason it was planned that we ate at some French restaurant for lunch. I don't recall what anyone else ordered, but I ordered a hamburger (it was on the menu).
For all I recall it might have been a "bacon and brie burger" with a side order of snails. :puke:
