Listening to his classic stuff - man talk about going from gold to zero in no time flat!

My mind keeps going back to the 70's for music. Todays music is just shit! IMHO

4. Is that what sharkjumped him?

5. Yup.
the album "Blue Moves" in 1976 was his first less-than-above-average record. He stumbled and never recovered (Unless, like me, you kinda have a soft spot for his Thom Bell-produced disco period, i.e. "Mama Can't Buy You Love..." I think I may be alone here, tho.)

6. Actually, "Songs from the West Coast" (2001) was pretty good
Rollingstone, October 11, 2001, 4 STARS
"...its spirit and ambition have finally come back home."

A number of excellent songs, reminiscent of 70's Elton - especially "I Want Love" and the Matthew Shepard tribute "American Triangle."

10. The precise moment when Reg jumped the shark...
...was when he recycled Candle in the Wind for Princess Diana's funeral. Ack!

19. If you didn't like that song
You'll have to blame Bernie Taupin. He writes the lyrics

13. I love Elton
I've loved him since I was 13. BUT - I only listen to his early stuff anything up to Captain Fantastic. After that something was not as good. "Songs From the West Coast" was good but I'm not sure what happened. His drug addiction probably and also he split with Bernie Taupin for many years - I think that was the bigger factor. It seems to me everyone seems to forget Bernie is the wordsmith and a genious at that. :)

14. I guess the question is "when".
You could definitely say "I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That" is post-shark-jump...but I think "I'm Still Standing" is pre-shark-jump. Now lets me and someone get in an argument about it.

Is my favorite. I think it is one of the most over looked albums of Elton's Career.

21. I don't like that "tough" voice he sings in these days.
I liked his voice much more when it was a bit smoother.
