ROMULUS, Mich. - A man's body was found early Friday in a wheel well of an American Airlines jet from Miami landing at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

The body was found about 1 a.m. EDT by an airport worker after passengers had disembarked. A cause of death and identity for the man, who was in his 20s, were not immediately known.

Detroit Metro spokeswoman Barbara Hogan said the flight originated in the Caribbean. She said it left Miami about 9:45 p.m. Thursday and landed at Detroit Metro about 12:50 a.m.

I, personally, can never understand why people even get the idea that this is a good way to stow away. :shrug:

A terrorist with warm clothes and an oxygen tank could actually pull this off.

.... The word needs to be gotten out somewhow to everyone, especially in 3rd world countries..

They should have signs posted all over the place as well as inside the wheel well.."YOU WILL DIE IF THIS PLANE TAKES OFF WITH YOU IN HERE!"

on edit: I know a couple people have survived it. But your chances are very very remote. Even with an O2 bottle and warm clothes.. there's the low pressure (pulmonary problems).. there's a lot of things that could go wrong... how much oxygen can you carry, while still being able to sneak onto the tarmac?.. how long is the flight? will you run out? Do you even KNOW where the plane is going?

But the survival rate is much lower than Hollywood would have you believe.

3. They Don't Understand the Pressure and Temperature Conditions

There used to be a lot of these cases back in the '60s, when people were trying to escape from Cuba in the early days of the Castro regieme.
