THANK GOD its St. Louis vs Boston in the World Series |
|
I could not have handled a Texas vs Massachusetts World Series, especially if the Astros had ended up winning.
THANK YOU GOD!

Mass is a winner and Texas is a loser.
It's a clear sign from god.

5. I only saw that today and went oh CRAP what if |
|
it is Texas-Massachussetts? Can you imagine the media field day, the oversaturation of the image?
I was actually rooting for Houston because I wanted to see Clemens waste the Yankees in the WS.
(This was when the Sox were down 0-3 and it looked like the Yanks were on their way.)

6. a conflicted Astros fan |
|
Imagine being a lifelong Astros fan and yet a passionate Kerry supporter (of the 4jkb4ia variety). Yet this is the untenable position I find myself in. So when you speak of the 2004 NLCS (and you will), please be kind. At least the Bosox have been to the World Series.
BTW, Astros first baseman Jeff Bagwell is from Massachusetts and grew up a diehard Bosox fan (and still is, according to a recent interview); outfielder Craig Biggio is from New York and catcher Brad Ausmus is from Connecticut.
Perhaps this is best for the campaign, but I still love my Astros beyond all reason.

7. I am trying not to get superstitious about this |
|
and I have nothing against the Yankees or Astros or Cardinals for that matter (or their fans), but I'm nonetheless glad that
(1) the Red Sox are in the Series, because I think it pumped up JK, and (2) this won't be "TX vs. MA." Too many completely brainless people who could be swayed by a Houston win, what with the sorry state of the "press" that would try to make something out of nothing. (I could just imagine CNN: "Houston wins Series, foreboding Bush victory?")
Like the post says... I'm trying not to get superstitious. I have my reasons. I am not a diehard fan of either the Sox or Cards and it'd be a tough call as to who to root for.... I have a friend whose husband is in a tough reelection battle in MO and is fighting some nasty Repug slime ads... Superstition would dictate that a Cards win = victory for my friend's hubby, and a Sox win = President Kerry. (If my friend reads this website.. sorry, hon, you'd lose. But I think you would feel the same if it were an either-or decision.)
But if the Sox pull this off, it'll be an uphill battle for me to not think it's a sign. And it sure would make JK smile. A smiling, jubilant candidate with a message of hope, who talks about the future... the CURSE-BREAKER.. vs. a nasty smirking fear-monger who talks about the past. Gee, I wonder how all those undecideds who complain about negativity would respond!
Rooting for the Sox, and for Kerry!!

for the Cardinals.
The Reds, OTOH, were Cheney'd from day one.

Do my beloved Cardinals have to play the RED SOX of all teams, in such a symbolic year?
ANY OTHER YEAR I would be cheering hardcore for the Sox, because 1) they're the ultimate underdogs and 2) they're making John Kerry a very happy man.
But I can't betray my dear Cardinals, the team I've longed to see in a Series since I was a little girl (I'm only 19, so I don't remember the '87 Series).
So I have to cheer for the Cardinals. I will be jubilant if they win, but I think the victory would've been much sweeter over the Yankees, who I detest. (SIGH)
