Poll question: Can You Spot A Republican Just By Looking At It? |
|
Can you spot one just by watching it and listening to it talk about non-political non-controversial topics?
If so... what's the give-away tell-tale sign?

They all project and they all use the same phrases:
"you need to be more open-minded"
"be realistic"
"in the real world"

7. Almost always get it right with |
|
men for some reason. It's the look in the eyes. Dems have eyes that twinkle, Repukes are flat and dull. Also the knot of the tie. Dems are more casual, sort of off center and Repukes are tighter and straight. Repuke women usually talk too loud and blabber, have big hair and wear too much makeup.

with the crew cut, polo shirt, no tatoos not covered by clothing, and if you can't see my bumper stickers, the beat up pickup truck.
In fact several people have asked me if I was a cop - while I was working in my store. Like I am going to sell them a porno and then arrest them for it, or something.
I don't think you can judge a book by its cover.

15. He he. Everyone thinks my husband was in the military, |
|
like a marine or something. He shaves his hair short, because it is easy and a cheap style to maintain. Of course, a lot of military people have the same hair cut. He also is very muscular looking (he looks big) and is very strong. He has never been in the military and never intends to be.

Also, the 'W' on the round bumper sticker gives them away. When this sticker is turned upside down it spells a 'M' which stands for moron.

...actually I have to hear them speak a little. A couple nights ago on the evening news they did a segment about two military guys, one voting for Bush and the other for Kerry. They didn't immediately identify which one was which but as soon as the one guy used the word "irascible" I knew that he was the Democrat.
The other guy just regurgitated the usual shit. And didn't use any "fancy" words.

23. Most of the ones I deal with ... |
|
won't let any conversation go on very long without drawing it around to politics, and then making some snide remark about Bill Clinton. Seriously, it's either Clinton, the bible, corporal punishment, or taxes.
They're considerably more obsessed about pushing apolitical conversations around to that stuff, in my personal experience -- maybe because so many of the Goopers I know are computer illiterate and can't go vent on Free Republic like I vent here at DU.
They generally find me a singularly unsatisfactory testing ground for Clinton snipes, though, since I often respond to anything (like the whole Bill Clinton/UN subject) they say with, instead of 'who does that bastard think he is!' -- "wow, that's an interesting idea!"
If they laugh and keep going past the Clenis-hatred, I know they're not hard cases; there are Democrats who don't think much of Clinton, and they're usually okay if you let them get off the subject once they find out you're not one of them. If they stalk off in a huff because you didn't join them in their orgy of Clenis-hatred, you know they're from the Kool-Aid Brigade.

26. that's funny, because I just read an interview with Steve Earle |
|
in our local paper, where he decribed Clinton as "the only Republican I ever voted for twice." It was very interesting. I wonder if the anger at Clinton doesn't have something to do with the fact that he was able to co-opt a number of ideas that the Reps. tend to think of as their own.

27. I used to say something similar, which always ticked my late father off. |
|
But in some ways, it was true enough. I think the fact that he was popular, moderate and appealed to a lot of people who weren't Democrats and who didn't traditionally vote for Democrats was what got them.
That and the high approval rating he maintained through the whole impeachment thing. I think that really galled them, that they couldn't convince a significant portion of the populace to hate him, no matter what they did. Only through revisionist history have they managed to destroy him somewhat -- and even so, people like him.

and other times I'm totally off. I know this one kid who really looks like a mini Ed Gillespie...my gut feeling tells me he's Republican, but I don't know for sure.
Another time, I saw a guy driving and I thought he definately looks Republican and when he passed enough so I saw his bumper, sure enough, he had the Bush/Cheney sticker. There was something about him that made him look 'uptight' and thats what tipped me off.

There's no need to be that way.
A-hem... I truly regret that my sense of humor causes you such distress. Please accept my most humble apologies for any inconvenience my post has caused you. :eyes:
Hey! I have an idea... would it please you if I cleared my thread ideas with you? :hi:
It appears that you haven't been here long, but surely you've been around long enough to realize what the nature of a political discussion forum is. I'm not here to make friends with or coddle or compliment the enemy... I like to poke fun at them, and ridicule them for their flaws?
It's fun... come on! Give it a try! You'll see!

for being a bit too sensitive. However, the majority of people I love best (my family) are Repubs. We are politically disparate, but alike in so many other ways.
I tend to picture them when I see (daily!) such threads as yours. Most topics are worse, however ("Repukes should all die horribly!" etc.)
I do realize your intent was, for the most part, humorous.
I just get depressed when I see the blind hatred expressed here. It's as if we forget these people are human beings.
Anyway, again, I apologize for taking your post too seriously. Perhaps my best bet is to avoid such topics altogether.
