How do creationists explain all the different races?
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 12:35 PM by rockydem
If it was just Adam and Eve - then how did there come to be black/white/Indian/asian/eskimo, etc. etc.. - different types of people spread throughout the world?

11. Evolution post the initial creation? seems to be a common idea.
The folks that find a reason for 500 million old bones in 5000 year old soil do have a problem with that reasoning - but you will have to ask them what their alternative reasoning is as I do not know it!

:-)

6. I don't think it's that much of an issue....pigmentation can be recessive

It is entirely possible for two "white" parents to have a "black" child, for example...though it's uncommon.

On edit: the question has changed since I wrote this post, to why there are different people groups. Creationists, or conservative Christians in general, would point to this part of scripture:

Genesis 11:

7. A couple of different explanations
1. Part of the fall-out from the Tower of Babel incident

2. Ham was the first black guy; it was part of his curse for seeing his daddy nekkid and drunk.

I'm not making this bullshit up. I was raised to believe this shit to be the gospel truth.

10. It's not a terribly reality-based view of things, I'll grant you that.
You can find a lot of shit on the web by looking up Ham, Noah, Curse of Canaan, etc.

9. Noah had different colored kids.
And then God cursed the black ones which is why they're inferior and OK to keep as slaves.

Not making that up.

12. Yep -- that was the story I got.

And people wonder why I rejected my parents' religion when I was 12. :eyes:

Oh, edited to add that, actually, in the version of Christianity my parents subscribed to, they didn't do the 'black race is cursed' thing. At least overtly. I will give them that, but that's all. :)

14. I never heard of it...
I live in the "Bible Belt" and my parents are pretty much fundamentalists, yet they're some of the most progressive people I know on the race issue.
