Random thought: I've never seen an Asian person driving a
non-Asian car. I hope this post isn't construed as racist--rather, I was wondering if it was a cultural difference, where Asians believe more strongly in supporting their own country's businesses than Americans do. Of course, you see Americans driving cars that originate in all sorts of countries, but I've never seen an Asian person driving an American-made car or any make of car other than Asian-made.

I live in Philadelphia, a diverse town.

2. Define "seen"
Actually, I have - but I'm curious whether you are including movies, TV shows and ads/commercials - certainly you've seen it there.

5. Hi! Of course you mean a car not enginneered in Asia.
Since a lot of Hondas, Toyotas, etc are manufactured in the US nowadays.

And a lot of GM cars are made in Canada.

I think it's because Asian people are generally smarter than everyone else. Which is why I drive an Acura.

9. That is what I mean, engineered in Asia.
Acuras are nice cars. I test-drove one and if I had been able to afford it, I would have bought it. Handled beautifully.

7. My spouse drives a Passat
He was born in Korea and immigrated at age 7 with his family. His father, among their numerous Asian cars over the years, also has a Mercedes. So, Asians will, on occasion, buy German cars from my personal experience!

16. Driving around Chicagoland,
I can tell you that I've seen plenty of asian people driving all kinds of cars...Mercedes, Cadillacs, Pick Ups, Fords, Chevys, Hondas, Toyotas, you name it.

Of course, with a huge area with people that own billions of cars (or so it seems) it's not to hard to concieve....

It's a good thing you don't have to stick to nationality when buying a car - just how many Lithuanian cars do you see on the roads???? I'd probable be driving something like this:

This is a GAZ - a Soviet-era car that was apparantly built in Lithuania in the early '60s.

20. Try looking a little harder
I have a hard time believing you haven't noticed a non-"Asian" (by which I assume you mean someone who doesn't look Chinese or Japanese) driving a car made by a non-Japanese or Korean company.

Must I also point out that if someone is born here, this is their country? If my friend Mr. Lee was born in New York City, why would he have any allegiance to a Toyota?

23. I'm of Japanese extraction, and I learned to drive on a Chrysler K-car!
My parents mostly owned Chrysler vehicles up until they purchased a "Challenger" in 1984 (co-produced with Mitsubishi). They bought a Toyota after I left for college, and seem to be pleased with it. Admittedly the quality of Japanese vehicles improved quite a bit over the decades ... we still laugh about a very well-mannered friend of ours (not Japanese) who arrived at work in 1970 or so, fuming over "that damned Toyota" after it broke down on the highway.

Dad's first car was a Volkswagen bug. I don't know whether their later choice of North American cars was influenced by tales of enraged auto workers damaging imports (we live in an auto/steel producing Rust Belt area).

By the way, our family once gave a relative a hard time for applying for a job with the Japanese transnational Daishowa (which was accused of being up to no good in Alberta, trespassing on Indian land etc.). Dad said it was immoral, plus it gave Japanese-Canadians a bad name. The relative ended up not taking the job.
