What car did you learn how to drive in?
My dad's 1999 Hyundai Elantra. I must have been 12 or 13 at the time.

9. 1974 Chevy Vega.
I was 15. My dad took me out on a back road. The car was already toast -- guess he figured I couldn't do it much more damage. It had been hit on the street near where he worked, the wheel was bent under. It never aligned properly after that, so you had to have your hands on the wheel at all times. Actually, it was good experience -- I've seldom had any situations where my inattention caused problems, since I learned driving a 'ditch diver' that had to be watched every second.

10. '63 Ford Falcon
and a '65 VW bug and finally a '67 Dodge Charger (hemi) which had a clutch I was barely strong enough to depress..

My father raced cars, and I learned to race as I learned to drive. I never followed in his racing footsteps, but his knowledge and tips (always have a way out) have come in very handy.

Seems like something that could be a key line for this election.

Perhaps your father should have taught b* about war.

12. Actually a wide variety of vehicles
A 1957 VW was my first car, but my mom had a 1967 Plymouth Sport Fury. That car was fun to drive! I also worked on a farm during that point in my life, so I can add tractors, combines and other assorted vehicles.

22. Small World
I learned on a '56 VW, which was my older sister's car at the time. My mother had a '67 Plymouth Fury III wagon - manual trans, manual steering, and manual brakes. My sister called it "The Sherman Tank" - and the year that Mom had Dad put studded snow tires on all four wheels, it SOUNDED like a Sherman Tank!!!

:-)

A true land yacht. I learned to parallel park that baby!

I learned to drive a manual transmission in my Dad's Porsche 912e. We lived on a mountain so it didn't take too long to get the hang of starting off from a stop on a hill.

I forget the year... 1972? And the model... but it was an 18-foot behemoth. I learned, driving up 101 in the Pacific Northwest, how to watch the corners of my car. Boy Howdy! 13 years old! My dad was the BEST!

18. Trial by fire
I learned to drive in 1970. My dad let me drive his manual-shift Fiat and, though we were in flat Florida, made me drive up a steep incline at a mall. No power anything but it was all downhill from there.

Not to be confused wiht my first car, which was a 1980 Peugeot 505 regular diesel. For some reason, my family had a thing for Peugeots in the '80s. I liked the cars, actually. I wish they still sold them in the US.

It was a very easy car to drive though! :hi:
