9. The story goes like this....

It was the spring of 1983. I had recently turned 17 and was planning to spend that Friday night as I often did--alone at the movies.

As I stood in line, I unconsciously whistled "Come On Eileen," a huge hit that spring for the Irish band Dexy's Midnight Runners. The young woman who stood in front of me turned around and started gushing about DMR's "Too-Rye-Ay" LP. Turned out, her name was Heather, she was 19, and, like me, was going to the movies alone. So we decided to sit together.

I don't remember what film was playing, but after about a half-hour, we mutually decided that it was nothing to write home about. Heather suggested that we get something to eat. So we climbed into her car (I didn't own one yet) and had a late dinner at a small Italian place a couple of miles from the theater.

Long story short, her parents were away for the weekend, so we went back to their house. I left my virginity in Heather's bedroom (or in Heather herself, depending on how you look at it). Never saw her again, but she gave me one of the best evenings of my life. Thanks, Heather, wherever you are!

EPILOGUE: In early 2001, the movie theater where I met Heather closed its doors for good. I thought my heart would break! I don't have too many fond memories of my teen-age years, but thanks to Heather and later "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," most of my good memories of those years revolve around that movie house. I still miss the place, dammit! :cry:
