Ashlee Simpson BUSTED!
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 11:58 PM by TrueAmerican
Her lip synching started without her lips moving. She ran off in embarrasment.

55. That is one of the saddest things I've ever seen
That stupid dance she did. What the hell was that?

After watching it, I actually feel a little sorry for her.

74. That Stupid Dance
really was pathetic. But I hardly felt sorry for her. What I saw was another lying cheat exposed for what she apparently is. That phony little dance was intended to appear spontaneous and real--she even started it twice--but when the singing was not queued up properly, the whole thing just fell apart.
Much like GWB's efforts to present many fictions as real but often being exposed for the fraud he is.

really loud. Then, they cut to a picture of Jude Law and then to commercials. When they came back, they went to a skit. This will be on the news, I'm sure. Bwah ha ha!!!!!!

49. closing credits
As the credits rolled, Ashlee said, "I am soooo sorry. The guys in my band started playing the wrong song." So, not only did she get caught lip-synching, but she blames it on the only actual musicians on stage.

This should redeem her a little. :-)

She has a few good songs on a generally mediocre CD Autobiography. Her voice changes so much on that CD that her voice is likely enhanced - the lip-synching is not a surprise.

Like when Charles Rocket said "fuck" or Sinead O'Connor tore up the picture of the Pope.

To be fair, a lot of these pop performers lyp synch in live performances. Not that it makes it right, but it isn't quite on par with Milli Vanilli (who never actually recorded their music to begin with). I actually felt sorry for her. Maybe it'll inspire her to actually perform from now on.

I wanted to laugh about it with someone but didn't want to get laughed AT for bringing it up. Thankfully, someone did it for me! ;) The weird part was that we weren't even watching SNL. We were about to watch a dvd when we turned the tv on just as Jude Law announced her second song. I asked my husband "Is that Jessica Simpson's sister?" and he said he didn't think so and while we were trying to figure it out we ended up seeing the funniest clip on SNL in a long time! That was classic. We didn't stick around to hear her excuse, how lame!

And it is not because of the whole Ashlee Simpson incident - their comedic skits are depressing to watch.

And they have already pulled their message boards off of the internet. It just shows how much they cater to their corporate clients.

69. Vidcap here. Dowload and enjoy!

It was working as of 10:00 a.m. CST.

I can't wait to hear what Eminem says about this next week on SNL! He lambasted Britney Spears for lip syncing the last time he was on. Now there's clear evidence about Ashlee S!

Don't know about others having trouble with the link. I'm on a Mac, and when I clicked it, it simply launched my Windows Media Player and started playing. Hope this works for everyone.

107. that's the beauty of being a musician...
turn up the volume and shred!

They didn't need her, she needed them. This goes to show just how unprofessional and out of her depth this idiot is... riding her lame sister's coattails like the country really is interested in the manufactured less-than-no-talent little sister to the manufactured no-talent older sister. There is no way that girl should have needed a voice track IF she truly was a singer (she's a vocalist, not a singer)... by this time, she should be able to sing that song in her sleep and backwards at the same time. If not, then she should have had the words in the teleprompter or on a sheet of paper on the ground by her mike stand. But walking off the stage like that was the height of unprofessionalism.

Same thing happened to Paula Abdul about 8-10 years ago--she was on some show--her voice track bombed and she had to actually sing, which she couldn't. That show sank Abdul's singing career like a lead balloon.

HAHAHA! It looks like the band did it on purpose - they're all laughing and smiling at the end! HAHAHA!!! I mean she isn't even that good a singer, but lip syncing - man that's weak. hahah what a loser.

75. Why can't singers just fucking SING?????
Instead of trying to do all this choreographed Michael Jackson dancing all over the stage, they should just sing.

Then they wouldn't have to worry about the damn lip-syncing.

I went to go see Whitney Houston in 80's and she can't dance for shit and she didn't try too, but I didn't buy the tickets to see her dance.

I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me.

79. A question to all my fellow performing musicians out there....
....back me up on this:

Let's say that yes, it was your band that caused the mixup (I'm even willing to set aside the lipsyncing for a sec). What you do in that situation is either sing the damn song they are playing or stop them, call out the right song, and dive into it. What you DO NOT do is WALK OFF THE FUCKING STAGE!!!!

Oh Ashlee...you really need to work those small clubs in front of disinterested audiences for awhile before you get to the Big Show :)

83. Nail, head.
I've been playing the clubs of Boston for about ten years. I've played through bleeding hands, broken snare drums, and bad feedback.

One time I was playing a house party and we blew a fuse. I was fronting that band; I turned the the drummer immediately and gave him the whirley-bird, as in "DO NOT STOP!" I jumped off stage and hit the circuit breaker and the show was back on.

The lip syching screwup was no big deal, these pop musicians all do it. But to walk off the stage, and then later blame it on your band... that just exposes her as a talentless hack who has no idea what she's doing.

I'm sure that the hired guns who are her backup band will be fired. Not because they did anything wrong... it'll be because they all want to strangle that little wench. Putting them onstage with her would endanger her safety.

86. Yep......Ashlee needs to learn the #1 rule.............
..........of ALL live entertainment.

"The Show Must Go On". Not exactly a new idea, but apparently forgotten.

You NEVER EVER abandon the stage, whether that "stage" is a live audience, TV, or radio. When the shit hits the fan, you improvise with shit and make shit as entertaining as possible.

There's plenty of times when those off-script improvisations end up being truly classic entertainment. But those moments require a talented entertainer.........

89. Exactly right.
That's what irritates me the most about this (again, laying aside the boring pop music and the lip syncing).

You don't just WALK OFF. But I guess that's what happens when your sister is a major star and you get a music contract for, basically, that reason.

93. I agree... thats actually when SNL is funny...
is when something goes wrong/haywire and they have to keep going or reimprovise what to do, aamof, Im sure most the 'classic' moments are THOSE type of moments.

And these people try to tell us to pay $16 for this bullshit.

97. or as my man Henry Rollins once
"NOTHING CAN GO WRONG UP HERE"

If you haven't heard it, check out his story about forgetting the lyrics to a song while performing in front of a festival crowd in Austrialia, and what he did to cover up for it on his CD Think Tank. Amazing :D

Oh Ashlee, Ashlee, Ashlee...stay in pop music where that sort of thing is somewhat tolorated. Get the back to the MTV, wench!!

96. I agree
I have never walked off stage in 20 plus years. I have had a lot of times where I would have liked to, but you have a job to do
The thing about this incident is...the band covered her ass just fine but she doesn't have their professionalism. She could have gone with what was going on and half the people wouldn't have ever known. I don't know any of her music and I would have just thought that the song sounded a bit like the first one.
Blaming the band for what happened was just uncalled for. I bet they split from her...I would.

108. you're right on the money
first off... how does everyone else start playing on cue the same notes of the same song in the correct key if there wasn't an agreement to the song they were performing? Where was Simpson when the agreement to do the song was made?

But you are right--she does need to do some time in front of a disinterested audience trying to talk over her while she's singing for a few years instead of riding her sister's coattails to the big stage when she truly was not ready to do that. The experience of working small venues would have taught her the proper protocol in a situation like that.

I once was performing at a small coffeehouse and the audio system was going buggy (playing acoustic guitar and singing). The dude running sound said to me "I hope you've got an instrumental you can do while I fix this"... I did. I played the instrumental while he worked out the kinks... and as it turned out, I had to do without a mike because their amp crapped out.. after a while, the woman behind the counter asked me if I could turn my mike down because I was singing loudly and I told her "I don't have a mike--that's me projecting". It was a funny moment.

95. This by association... proves that SNL really does suck...
They try to maintain that 'clubby' setting... well, you lip sync in the clubs Ive seen/went to and you eat beer bottles!

I actually am reassured when a band screws up, or something goes a little haywire... that way you know they are genuine (human)

Like when a mike cuts out and you still hear the guys voice unamplified, or the guy misses a word or hits a wrong note.

Its not about keeping it perfect, its about NOT giving up!

98. Lets see how many rules she broke:
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 01:29 PM by Endangered Specie
1 - Getting on because of family (Bush-Yalesque)
2 - Lip Syncing (bad, but nothing really unexpected)
3 - Trying to dance your way out of it (that don't cut it honey)
4 - Walking off the stage (aint that the golden rule of performing?)
5 - Walking off the stage, slowly (cmon, if youre going to do it, DO IT FAST!)
6 - Blaming it on the band (now that is the one that really makes me sick, worse than the other 4 combined... Thats like Henry Ford calling his workers lazy.)
7 - Acting like a ditz (icing on the perverbial cake)
8 - Looking like a medium range hooker through the whole process (pretty standard these days, but still -2 points)

Any others????
