Poll question: Beanie Babies - yea or nay? |
|
Little, expensive, plush dolls that look like tasty critters.
Hand-made in China, one wonders why the prices are so high... or why people think of them so fondly.
They all look well made, but I can only imagine what would happen to a Chinese knitter who didn't tie a stitch perfectly enough. :scared:
I say nay. What say you?

1. Just more useless crap to clutter up the house, |
|
although I've heard that some of them have sold for outrageous prices - is there some kind of underground beanie baby market or something?

4. Beanie Babies (BBs) were 90s. Today marks the comeback of 80s trash |
|
Cabbage Patch Kids (:eyes:) and Strawberry Shortcake (:puke:)
Not to mention a retread of the pointlessly disgusting Garbage Pail Kids trading cards.
WTF... In the 1960s and early 70s, all was about love. Starting mid-70s, things started turning darker. ("Heaven's on Fire" by Kiss being rather memorable for all the wrong reasons). With the 80s being a true embarrassment in what is laughable called "culture"...

7. I used to work in a store that sold Beanie Babies |
|
and the company that makes them totally controls the market for them. It is repulsive. They would deliberately withhold shipments, creating a shortage and a huge demand. We would sell every single one we got on the day they all came in. I felt really sorry for the kids who were being manipulated by this toy company. It was marketing at its greediest. And kids were the victims.

My younger son has one that someone gave him about 9 years ago. It's a little white tiger that he calls "Kitty Cat". It's been loved so much that most of its beans are sqwushed and it's just sort of a limp fur bag with legs, a tail and a head! :D
