Bird toys - where can I find vegetable tanned leather rope? |
|
Prices for pre-made toys are highway robbery, and they're all made outside the US and shipped in. Given that most birds will render a toy into confetti within a few days, I'd rather make my own.
I've everything except vegetable tanned leather for the ird to chew on. (Food coloring or USWEETENED jello gelatin (not sugar-free or sugar-added) can safely colorize the wood...)
Thx!

1. Find a good leather supplier |
|
buy half a hide, cut it yourself. It's graded on weight per sq. foot. ie, 12oz, 16oz, etc.. There's a leather tool for cutting lace (usually from thinner Kip leather). You can then braid it into a rope. Nice thing about vegetable tan is that you can get it soaking, shape it like clay while it's wet, and it dries to that shape. I'm sure you can find some good sources online.
