2. I don't particularly love St. Louis
but I'll be rooting for them because the Pats beat the Jets and I'm in a seriously pissed-off mood at New England.

Maybe I'll root for the Sox in Game 3, but for tonight - I'm bleeding Cardinal Red!

7. I was being kind to the NICE NY fans
we've already seen the classless ones on DU who used the young student's death as a pretense to bash Boston fans. Magic Rat wasn't one of those.

But I still love gloating about the Sox!

What the fuckin hell was that about, and then they gloated about their many titles. I've been reminding them that they should be watching a certain team to the south of new york :). Sorry, go Sox. Rat isn't a Yankees fan, I don't think.

Those DUers who piled on and attacked Boston fans should be ashamed. I'm glad that thread was eventually locked. Boston was mourning for that girl, and the police have a lot to answer for.

41. How can you EVER cheer for the Cards and be a Cubs fan?
The lone exception being if the Cardinals need to win for the Cubs to clinch a playoff spot - like what happened last year - and then, and only then, will you root for the Cards (reluctantly).

I don't know what I'd do if we had a Cardinals/Yankees World Series... I'd probably just boycott baseball until Spring Training.

Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 08:31 PM by ikojo
Cardinals comes out of my mouth it is followed by the following:
-blows
-suck

However, my Cubbies are not in the World Series (a common occurrence) and I guess I may have been beaten down by all the Cardinals revelry taking place at work. I SO did not want the Astros to win (you know the Texas thing..the series would have been framed as a commentary to the election) that I was cheering on the Cards last week and I may have drank from the kool-aid.

Really, now that the Astros are no longer in the series, I don't have a dog in this fight. I live in St Louis and it would be cool for it to be the home of the 2004 World Series team.

78. Cub fans have a secret liking for the Cards.
Maybe my views are skewed by being married to a Cards fan when I have been a life long Cub fan--but it seems to me that there is a secret appreciation for the other guys on the part of both sides.

The closest thing I can compare it to is a family feud when an outsider enters into it--everybody hates the outsider for interfering!

When Sosa and McGuire were in the home run derby, it was a most amazing season. I was at the game when McGuire hit his record breaker, and the energy there was amazing for BOTH guys. Sure, there were a few who were evil about it, but for the most part, it was a real celebration of both men.

I kind of view the World series the same way. Both teams have accomplished a lot to even GET there. I just hate seeing anyone diminish the accomplishment with mean spirited trash talk.

It is a real shame that Boston had such an unhappy start with the loss of that fan. I hate seeing anyone lessen what that team has done by slamming on that sadness. I also hate the fact that the Boston fans have waited so long for this only to have it diminished by such a loss.

Call me silly, but baseball for me is about the celebration of the game, and about celebrating civilized sports and sportsmanship. There is NEVER a bad day at the ballpark--just bad fans!

Play well and safely, EVERYONE!

Laura

Hit 95 mph on the gun, coped well with a tight strike zone, but those Cards can hit most any fastball with authority.

Rolen hit that ball WICKED HAAAD.

Now let's see what the unimpressive Matt Morris has.

Sort of bringing the reality tv angle to baseball I guess. I really don't think it adds anything. What the hell is the guy going to say besides I think we got a good chance to win this thing. Like you're going to get some great insight to the game when the manager knows the cameras are rolling.

Gimme a break. All but one of the errors came in a run scoring situation and after each time Curt "God" Schilling has reached back for something extra to get the out he needed. This is a masterful pitching performance from a man who can barely walk right now.

Without him no telling what the score would be right now. I think if you ask anybody in baseball if they gave up 4 errors but only 1 run they'd say you're lucky.

82. Sox=no errors in Div.series and ALCS, right?
Luckily, they are surviving the miscues so far although last night, the errors almost cost them.

83. I can live without Schilling's exhibitionistic "Christianity"
There are plenty of religious ballplayers; can't think of any other that clasps the cross for the cameras.

Yes, the perfomances and the bloody sock will go down in history. Just spare me the God talk in the post-game.

90. Do you think just maybe he actually believes that maybe his prayers
are what are getting him through this night? And do you think maybe after his performance in game 6 that he was so grateful for what he believed he received from god that he felt the need to say it when asked? He has every right to his faith and he has every right to be vocal about it when asked. He is a baseball player not a government official who should be keeping faith separate.

I say this as a schilling and sox fan as well as an avowed atheist.

91. Curt

Well, Curt says he "found" Jesus seven years ago. I didn't know he was lost, so whatever that means...

Unfortunately though, Curt IS a republican, and probably a fundie, but he can pitch.

So - I put aside my politics and enjoy the Sox, and admire Shilling's abilities.

What pisses me off, are ball players who try and mix politics with sports. Just shut the fuck up and pitch.

94. The post-game talk is normal
The cross-clasp for the cameras is excessive.

It's characteristic of a man who has always loved attention, only this time he uses the cross.

That's what I see.

All fastballs. Strikes out the side. The only time I've seen him get hurt is when he throws a breaking ball.

105. Marquis is in for the Cards? Isn't he starting Game 4?
I guess he could throw an inning... game 4 isn't until Wednesday. Still, it's strange to bring a starter in when you're down 5 runs in the 7th.

GO RED SOX!

Over the shoulder catch in deepest CF. Cards are going down, but that was a work of art.

And now they're showing the 1954 clip...
