she's so mean to the dog. She calls him stupid and yells at him to "shut up" really nasty when he whines. God, I feel bad.

for people that bully animals. she's projecting her own misery onto the dog, who surely doesn't deserve it.
your room-mate is a bad person.

4. She's not a bad person |

She just has a bad attitude towards him. The thing is, she's good w/ animals usually. I don't know why she hates him so much. I'm trying to place him in a better home right now.

instead of a dog, this reverse 'favoritism" wd be unconscionable.
i see no difference. mean people are mean. acting out her negative feelings on a helpless animal, that probably loves her despite her aggression, is cowardly & ugly.
imo, she's a BAD person, perhaps w/ some o'wise personable & redeeming traits. i wd not be able to see past her viciousness; nor wd i ever trust her. some day her capriciousness might turn...

too many people think their dogs "think like people" and act accordingly. It doesn't work.
I was really sad this weekend when I was in a pet-supply store and I heard a woman ask a clerk for help choosing a good tie-stake for her yard. Her reasoning was "our dog lives inside and thinks he's people - we need to put him outside so he can learn he's a dog."
Just stupid - the dog doesn't think "he's people" because he's inside. It's because he's not trained.
As for your roommate, perhaps you could talk to her about getting some obedience training for the dog. Another great resource is the show "The Dog Whisperer" on National Geographic. There are also a ton of great books out there on how to relate to a dog.
Whatever problem the dog has (whining, crying, barking... whatever) CAN be addressed, but you have to know HOW. Yelling at it doesn't work.

I was very old when I learned a good dog is a dog that "thinks its people". In other words, it loves you and responds accordingly and behaves because it's happy to please you. My dog will go outside for a while on nice days, but she does prefer to be in the house. But it's better than one of those "outside dogs" who is miserable and never obeys anything because it gets no attention and is wild every time you let it off the stake or out of the yard.

10. What a fucking bitch.. |

What the hell is wrong with you? Tell her to back off or you'll deal with her in the same way she deals with the dog.
Bitching and being nasty to animals is by far the LOWEST thing an y human being can do.
My advice is to get rid of your ugly roommate and keep your dog. You can't guarantee that your dog will end up in a good home (do you know how many people try to "find good homes" and their animals end up in HORRIBLE places?). How could you do that to your dog? it sounds to me like you'd be better served finding that bitch another home and leeting yuor dog stay at the home he knows. She's the one with the problem, NOT your dog.

I can't get rid of her. I can't just move out. I have a lease and finding housing here is really hard. However, I already know where I want him to live. We had a girl "babysitting" him and he was way better off. This girl has a yard (which we don't) and she takes the time to groom him and clip his nails. I'm gonna try to arrange for her to keep him.

13. tell her to 'shut up' when she talks to the dog that way |
|
then ask her how she likes it. If she starts whining about stuff, get nasty with her. ask her how she likes it.
she's an asshole. show her this thread.
