Did anyone else see it?
I thought it was really spooky. I jumped quite a few times.
Overall, I would give it a B.
The script and acting were just fair.
But, it did have an eerie quality throughout the film. Solid directing and all the typical thrills and chills of a good horror thriller.

Scarier than The Ring, IMO.

2. Yeah, I have to agree it was scarier |

But i think I liked "The Ring" better.
Maybe it was Naomi Watts, who knows.

My wife and I liked it. It was not the typical hollywood halloween crap, which I assumed it was going to be. The Japanese influence helped in that regard.

The independent video store here had all the Japanese incarnations (there are several) on order, but I would guess that the success of the American version will cause some of the big chains to pick up a copy of Ju-on.

7. My sister-in-law walked out of it |

She said it was the dumbest thing she ever saw.
What was that? Oh, just the cat. How quant (and formula).
She said more than a dozen people left the movie before she did.

I could see how some could find it disappointing.

Is it just me or was her demise typical horror flick fare?
Maybe I'm the compassionate type, but when the real estate man reached into the bath tub, why didn't he try to pull the arm out? I mean, if someone's drowning in a tub....
If the dead person with the grudge kills all who have entered the house, what about the firemen who put out the blaze or the paramedics who brought the old lady out?
I think a good Wayans-style parody would be if the "thing" attacked a Karate black belt who defended him/herself with gusto.

I didn't like Gothika at all.
I thought the Grudge was much better.

17. Creepiest movie I've seen in years |
|
Perhaps it'll teach some Hollywood-types there's more to a good movie than CGI.
