amazon.com Album Description
When Mitchell Froom (Suzanne Vega, Crowded House, Elvis Costello) produces a debut album, it is well worth taking notice. Thanks to their strangely beautiful voices, magnetic personalities, brilliant playing, bizarre storytelling and stunningly diverse range,The Ditty Bops —the duo of Amanda Barrett and Abby DeWald —earned his attention. A musical celebration embracing everything from contemporary folk pop to ragtime to musical theater, their self-titled debut is as gloriously unique as their name.

review by Dan Aquilante from today's New York Post . . . (he's pretty good despite the rag he writes for) . . .

With a quirky coffeehouse aesthetic, the Ditty Bops create acoustic music that's out of time with most contemporary styles.

These closet genre-benders shimmy to jug-ban music, hum n' strum folk, break out a waltz and, yes, even rock.

Guitarist Abby Dewald and Amanda Barrett (who adds the exotic dulcimer and mandolin fretwork) shine with earthy vocals that reach for ethereal highs.

The music is good, but it's the poetic, bizarrre and sometimes taboo lyrics that draw you in. When you have a falling-in-love song such as Wishful Thinking that opens with the jarring question, "Why does blood turn brown when it dries?" you know there's more to the band than the name Ditty Bops implies

Rated 4 stars (out of possible 4)

you can listen to some samples on their website (interesting in itself) . . .
