Man Utd 2, Arsenal 0!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not quite a classic, but still a very good game with lots of skill, commitment, and intensity.

Oh, and--as always when these two play--controversy.

Anyway, VERY glad I bought the pay-per-view.

Maybe, maybe, United isn't done, after all. For all the writing off of them, they've still only lost one EPL game this sseason--the same as Arsenal. United have drawn too many times so far, is all (5 of their first 10 matches). If Arsenal draw a few times and United go on a streak of three point wins, LOOKOUT!

And remember, the last time a record-setting undefeated run by Arsenal ended (Everton beating them 2-1 the seaon before last), the Gunners got rattled and actually dropped a few more matches after that while United evetually went on to win the Premiership.

Who knows what might happen...:think:

2. United's defence is far too fragile
What Wesley Brown lacks in pace, Rio Ferdinand lacks in consistency. Arse are still my faves for the title, although what do I care - I support Coventry City...

4. Hmmmm...
...not sure that's United's problem. They've conceded fewer goals than Arsenal (in fact, only Chelsea have conceded fewer) and they were the stingiest defense WELL into last season until Ferdinand's 8-month suspension.

I think their problem this year has more been the weakness of their offense compared to Arsenal's (11 goals scored so far versus 29).

Won't contradict that Arsenal are still the favorites. Just saying that United still have a lot of pride and bottle and if their talent can be a bit more consistent again...well..the season looks a little more up-for-grabs today then it did before yesterday, anyway.

6. Don't get your hopes up

Admittedly the Arse had an off-night, but from the 20 minutes I saw Bergkamp, Tourè and Henry all had clear goalscoring opportunities stemming from defensive errors. But we'll see. Can't see Arsenal losing it myself, and if they do, Chelsea seem to be the best challengers at this stage.

...certainly no-one can seriously hope that that filthy bunch of shites in Manchester do well, either. I can't stand the f*ckers myself.

9. Well, I'm a United fan...

...myself.

Except for being born overseas, I've lived in America all my life. If I were English, I'm sure my team would be the local one, no mattter how obscure.

However, here in America, we really only get to see the big teams play with regularity. You almost never get to see the smaller clubs here. United were the team I got to see often enough to become familiar with the players and identify with their fortunes.

So, I "seriously hope" the "shites" do well.

As for getting my hopes up, I'm probably as optimistic about United as you are about the Sky Blues, or anyone else would be about their team.

3. Don't get me started!!! Yer cheatin' bag o' bollocks!!
The curse of Old Trafford strikes again.As a Arsenal fan,I shall be spitting blood for the rest of the week;Rooney diving,Ljungberg fouled,no booking,no surprise,the Ruud boy,"he only cheats those who don't know him",the fouls on Reyes.
It's never pleasant being mugged,and it means we've got to start from zero again in the unbeaten games record!

...Arsenal consistently have the worst disciplinary record in the league and take a backseat to no one in "cheating".

Frankly, their lack of class is what makes them such an unlikeable team in spite of how much one wants to give them credit for their ability.

What happened on Sunday was part of football. Ljunberg was only playing for the foul and had no control of the ball; even if the contact on Rooney ended up being minimal, Campbell instinctively stuck his leg out with no intention of getting the ball; and, even if that wasn't a penalty it probably should have been one when Cole took down Ronaldo in the box.

Consider it karma for all the diving Pires has done over the last few seasons.

As for Van Nistelrooy...well, that was disgraceful if it was intentional, but again, who are Arsenal of all people to point fingers at others???

Good day.

7. I was being flippant,but lets try to meet in the middle.....
"..their lack of class"
Henry? Lack of class?
"Arsenal consistently have the worst disciplinary record"
Not last season;
"Ljunberg was only playing for the foul and had no control of the ball"
Next week a player will be sent off for an identical incident;
"the contact on Rooney ended up being minimal"
There was no contact;

Yes,Ashley was lucky to not be booked,Rooney's goal was quality,
and Pires does tend fall over in the box.

Have a good one!

8. When I typed "lack of class"...
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 09:15 AM by George W Bush
...I meant the American meaning, which would be lack of sportsmanship or dignity. I realize, though, from reading British soccer publications that you guys use "class" to mean "skill". So sorry about the confusion. However, even if we can agree that Henry displays dignity, he's just one player on that squad.

Let's not forget how Arsenal as a team carried themselves at the end of the corresponding fixture last season, for starters.

Anyway, I would say that Arsenal are still the stronger bet to be the top team over the course of the season, obviously. As a United fan, I was just happy for a day that reminded me of the old United that could outdo anyone, Arsenal included.

United have won 8 of the first 12 Premiership crowns and were unquestiobaly the best team in England for a decade. They were European champions. They gave me a lot of nice memories. Nothing lasts forever, though, and if Arsenal are the next sole dominant team, I'm happy for you and the memories you are about to rack up.

Cheers.

11. I've tried to forget the mass brawl from last year...
that was no way to behave.

The Treble is the standard to which Arsenal have to aspire;a win in Champions League is essential to be a great team.Maybe this year!It is a joy to watch Arsenal at the moment,they play at a ferocious speed,and have already scored nearly thirty goals.

13. Bah, so close to a half-century!
Well, the gunners had to be beaten eventually. 49 games without a loss speaks for itself, but all good things must come to an end. Rattled or not, my money is still on them for the premiership.
