Ghost story?

I've always been a skeptic when it comes to the afterlife and the supernatural, yet I've always been fascinated by these stories. This morning I had something strange happen I wanted to share with you all, and I'd like you to share your strange tales, too.

Over the years, we've adopted four dogs from the local animal shelter, but we've never had more than two at a time. Our first dog, a dear, sweet male Chow, was hit by a car when our lawn guy left the back gate open. Our female Chow mourned him so terribly, we adopted another dog sooner than we should, a male Shar-pei. Though he could never replace our first dog, he was a good companion to our girl and to my partner and I. He died of a stroke a year ago yesterday. We adopted another male Shar-pei a few months later.

Since our male Chow died, I've often thought I've seen him out of the corner of my eye. Once, after he'd died and before we adopted the first Shar-pei, I was napping with our female Chow and I thought I felt him get on the bed with us. My partner says that I was just missing him so much, I dreamed he was there. Maybe.

This morning, I was in the bathroom, brushing my hair and putting on my make-up while my partner was outside with our dogs. The door was open and the mirror reflects part of the hallway. I looked into the mirror, and there were my boys, standing in the hallway like they used to when they were alive. I turned around, and of course, no one was there. I looked in the mirror again, and I could still see them, wagging their tails and smiling. Then they disappeared.

I'm crying now, but I wasn't this morning. I put down my brush and walked into the living room to see if perhaps my partner had brought our dogs into the house. Of course, he hadn't. But I noticed that he had lit the candle we keep between the urns that hold the ashes of our departed dogs. When he came back in with our (living) dogs, I asked him why he had lit the candle, and he said that last night he dreamed that our first Chow and our first Shar-pei were playing in a misty field of blue light, and that they seemed very happy together.

1. I believe that they stay with us. We miss them more because they

can still visit and we don't usually notice. I bet they are very happy because they are together again.

2. Well, the weirdest part is...

...they were never together in life.

4. Maybe they were. You hear about kids playing with their playmates.

Maybe our dogs play with our dogs on the other side. They seem to see things we dont. Just came home from the vet with our little 3 yo Boston. She has been looking like she has bell's palsey. Drew cells to rule out cancer. Just chills me to the bone and makes me stop breathing to think of her being sick. I think she is ok, but appreciate that they check her out fully. She reminds me of one we had that died. I feel like she came back in a way.

Yes, these stories are very much like what many pet companions have reported and what I myself have experienced. Two years ago my Mitzi was killed in an auto accident and I have experienced many visits from her including one where she walked across the bed, much like you've reported here. I could actually see her paw prints crossing the bed. She's also appeared to my husband and my brother, too.

Since that time, I've collected much information on this topic and I will send it to you if you like. I have to go to work now but I will check this thread later tonight to see if you would like me to send it to you.

6. It is hard to believe, but I've seen some strange things

My uncle owns a house that he swears has a spirit. While babysitting his kids I have felt something strange and seen shadows (or something else hard to describe, but what seems like changes in light or visual clarity of a small area when there is no clear source for the change). I usually dismiss these things, even though my uncle has claimed to see doors move slightly when there is no wind or get a chill when he approaches certain areas of the house. I still don't know if its true, but whenever I go over there I feel something. It might be my mind looking for something that isn't there, but maybe there is something to it. I will continue to be open minded, but doubtful as to the existence of spirits.

8. We were told our house was haunted before we moved in

But I've never seen anything to make me think that's the case, until this morning, of course, and I'm quite sure that that isn't what the previous occupants were talking about.
