Sign of the apocalypse: 18 year-old girl driving H2 Hummer.
I was walking to work this morning and I saw this. That's the first time I've seen this. Usually Hummers around here are driven by middle-aged balding (I can only imagine) impotent pricks, who just LOOK like assholes.

Now, unless this girl is getting volleyball endorsements, I have to assume that her parents bought her a Hummer to take to college with her. Why? WHY? What possible reason would a parent have to give their daughter this piece of machinery?

1. There's probably a whole number of 18 yr old girls driving Hummers....
...in Iraq.

Different income bracket than the girl you described above, however.

11. Kids get parents USED SUVs, Minivans, Hummers
and other dangerous vehicles. Expect to see more young people in huge unwieldy vehicles.

12. Yeah, remember bumping into things when you first started driving?
You gently bumped your little Ford Escort off 3 or 4 cars in the parking lot, trying to pull out?

Imagine how much damage a Hummer will do.

3. To keep her safe, just kill everybody else.
That's the reason people buy them. They feel like king of the road, and probably can survive a crash with most other vehicles.

6. Classic American sheeple point of view.
"To keep her safe, just kill everybody else."

You know what people used to buy to keep their children safe when they started driving? Volvo station wagons. Now it's Hummers...what the fuck is going on in this country?

13. You're absolutely correct! That's also the reason they buy SUV's.
I've had a constant argument with my DIL about that! She insisrted they buy an Expedition so her kids would be safe. I told her it's nothing but a very expensive status symbol, and I still think that!

7. Some sort of status symbol I would imagine. It is odd that...
a young adult would have such a vehicle. I just assumed Hummers were the new phallic symbols for aging corporate execs. Who knew?

10. God, status symbol. Wouldn't a real status symbol be a hybrid?
They're just as hard to get as a Hummer, but it shows them to be a thinking person who's doing something good for the world. Wouldn't that be more impressive in college? Aren't these kids thinking at ALL?

9. I think the H2 actually comes with bullet-proof glass, standard.
That's so all the people shooting at them for being assholes who drive a Hummer won't be able to hit them.
