There's a reason they're called Sacagawea *dollars* |
|
So my wife just went to Seven-11, bought something, and had 78 cents in change coming. The cashier gave her three pennies and three Sacagawea coins, apparently thinking they're a special kind of quarter. Dumbass.
Well, if anyone's in the area, swing by the 7-11 on Rt. 116 before that guy's shift is out. There's a lot of money to be made!

1. Have dealt with customers getting snarly when given coin dollars |

in change and thinking they got quarters instead of dollars. Have been shouted at more than I care to remember for 'shortchanging' when the I carefully counted out the change with dollar coins for them. Worked for a man who refused to put paper dollars in the registars in the morning. Have had people scream and throw things at me about those Sacagawea dollars!

4. see, this is what I don't get. |

In Canada, they just decide to have a dollar coin, and that's the end of the story. Here, it has to turn into this big national argument, as though the fate of the free world depends on whether we have a dollar coin. Why does everyone have so many issues with these things?

9. In Canada, we've got a two dollar coin now, too... |
|
"Loonies" (one dollar, with picture of loon) and "Toonies" (two dollar, pic of polar bears)....It's bizarre - you come home from a normal day of buying coffee, lunch, gas, etc., and have over $20 worth of change!!!!

It's so much more convienient than using bills. We should take all the metal that's wasted making pennies and use it to make $1 and $2 coins.

12. So did your wife give them back? |
|
This always interests me. So many people will keep the money when they're overpaid yet they will always point it out when they are shorted. Why is it right to be honest on the one hand and dishonest when you profit? That seems very freeperish to me. Not that I am accusing - I don't know what she did. But it is an interesting and kind of unsavory phenomenon.
Morality check, anyone?

Thanks, Miss Manners. But I figure, if the guy's dumb enough to think a dollar coin is worth 25 cents, that's his problem.

15. So is it his problem when he shortchanges you? |
|
Sorry, but I work retail. I know what it's like to work in a fast paced environment with people clamoring for service and everyone in a hurry. Clerks are responsible for their tills and a mistake can cost them their job. You say he was "dumb" - you've never made a mistake at work? I guarantee you, after 8 hours running a cash register, it's pretty easy to mistake one of those stupid things for a quarter. You think we examine every coin we pick up? All our customers would be hollering like crazy for us to hurry up if we did.
I'd rather be thought of as "Miss Manners" than be some arrogant jackass who'd yell his head off if he was shorted but who'll keep the money and blame it on the cashier, who's probably making all of 7 bucks an hour, when the poor guy screws up.

16. I puzzled my aunt last night too |
|
I always keep at least $25 of dollars on my person, in case we have another emergency, and I don't have currency.
Last night went out to eat with my aunt and I laid $4 of dollar coins for a tip (yes, it was a 15% tip). I think she was embarrassed and gave the waiter an extra dollar...I didn't have the heart to tell her!
