I just took an workplace discrimination/harrassment online class.
It's actually mandated by our company. It was quite educational.

It sort of made me think about the comments I've made here. :-(

1. So did you learn how to discriminate and harass
online?

4. how was your experience with the training itself?
I write interactive learning courses for the telecom industry, so I am always interested in how our competitors present material online.

9. It was quite good.
Interactive format...2 hours. The instructor detailed what constitutes harrassment and discrimination. And mentioned what federal, state and local laws dealt with it.

The course was 2 hours (long enough to be informative, short enough not to get people fidgety). Plus, a training manual was downloadable as well.

I'd give it high marks, overall.

6. I asked our instruction "what if we WANT to be harrassed?"
just because I'm a troublemaker. She didn't have an answer.

It all comes down to treating people decently and with a little common sense.

7. You must work for the same company as I do.
I took it last year and it was mandatory, also.

8. It's not wise to mandate at work.
It never works out. :7

12. My dad had to take a class like that last week. Mandated by his company
as well. He says he is now afraid to say anything. :hi:

14. One could get that reluctance.
The instructor talked about being careful with compliments. Some people can take those the wrong way.

It's a very fine line, nowadays.

16. How weird! I just took one at my job as well!
Had to print the certificate and put it in the boss' box.

I feel so dirty...turns out I've been sexually harassing myself.

Still couldn't help thinking about the Broadcast News/Albert Brooks line:

"Congratulations. You've really blown the lid off nooky."

17. My company needs something like that
Some of the people there just don't get it. Fortunately, the really bad harassers have left the company for different reasons, but I still occaisionally get comments that I am not entirely comfortable with. I am not so uncomfortable though that I want to report these people and get them fired. I think a little education could possibly go a long way.
