E-Bay Scam??? Need some help here.
I just got this email, purportedly from Ebay:

Dear eBay Uder,

During our regular udpate and verification of the accounts, we couldn't verify your current information. Either your information has changed or it is incomplete.

As a result, your access to bid or buy on Ebay has been restricted. To start using your eBay account fully, please update and verify your information by clicking below :

https://scgi.ebay.com/saw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?VerifyInformation

Regards,

eBay

**Please Do Not Reply To This E-Mail As You Will Not Receive A Responce**

When I clicked on the link it took me to a very official looking website that asked me to confirm my username, password, ssn, credit card number, pin, etc. I became suspicious and back buttoned back here without completing.

Has anyone else gotten this message and do you know if it is a scam or not?

11. WOW, that was quick
The timestamp on my forward was 9:59, the reply below is timestamped 10:00.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting eBay's Trust and Safety Department about email
solicitations that are falsely made to appear to have come from eBay.
These emails, commonly referred to as "spoof" messages, are sent in an
attempt to collect sensitive personal information from recipients who
reply to the message or click on a link to a Web page requesting this
information.

The email you reported did not originate from, nor is it endorsed by,
eBay. We are very concerned about this problem and are working
diligently to address the situation. We have investigated the source of
this email and have taken appropriate action. You may rest assured that
your account standing has not changed and that your listings have not
been affected.

We advise you to be very cautious of email messages that ask you to
submit information such as your credit card number or your email
password. eBay will never ask you for sensitive personal information
such as passwords, bank account or credit card numbers, Personal
Identification Numbers (PINs), or Social Security numbers in an email
itself. If you ever need to provide information to eBay please open a
new Web browser, type www.ebay.com, and click on the "site map" link
located at the top the page to access the eBay page you need.

If you have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay,
please forward it immediately to spoof@ebay.com and do not respond to it
or click on any of the links in the email message. Please do not change
the subject line or forward the email as an attachment.

If you entered personal information such as your password, social
security number or credit card numbers into a Website based on a request
from a spoofed email, you need to take immediate action to protect your
identity. We have developed an eBay Help page with valuable information
regarding the steps you should take to protect yourself....

7. It's a total scam!
We got the same exact email a few weeks back, forwarded it to the spoof@ebay.com and they wrote us back saying it was NOT from ebay.

They wanted us to enter our ebay username and password. I guess so they can pose as you and get into your account.

12. If your email address is your user ID
You'll get this all the time.

Infact if you login to ebay it will pop up a message to tell you to
pick another ID.

i received this email a couple months ago, to an address that wasn't even used for eBay.

16. My computer illiterate Father in Law got that and a similar one from
"Capital One VISA" right. Problem? He didn't have an account with Ebay or Capital One. Really shook him up - he's old, he doesn't need this kinda shit. Just uses email to stay in touch with his daughters and sister. He was very worried that someone had stole his identity and set up accounts. We worked through it, figured out these were scams, and I had him run credit checks on him and his wife anyway, since he hadn't for years, just for the peace of mind. Bastards.

17. damn scammers
These scams work because ebay has so many users that the mass email they send out will get to many ebay users.
