Yes indeed. I say to the fair lady accepting the return "Have you watched this?" Her face reddens, her hand signals thumbs down. "No" she says "I do not like him and his opinions." I say "There are none of his opinions that I noticed, just images we have all seen on TV now and again." Her face gets redder. I say "You have a closed mind."

Our friendship is rapidly fading. So I make it a little worse. "I am a Korean war veteran and I do not like Bush." I say that because I know her father escaped the draft back then. That makes her even redder.

I know she is retired from the Verizon and/or AT&T. I suggest under Bush she will maybe lose her pension and benefits. She gets even redder of face.

Her final words "Well then I will have to keep working at the library."

These people are welded into self destruct mode.

PS. I googled AT&T/Verizon a few minutes ago and sure enough retiree benefits appear to be under attack. I did unknowingly hit a nerve. I must call my sister also retired AT&T/NY Bell and see if she is affected.

1. I bought Moore's Book - Stupid White Men at a bookstore
in Indiana. I'm waiting for gift wrap. The woman in front of me is having them wrap a cookbook. They are all chatty. She's done.

I plop down SWM. "Oh..." says the woman in a tone usually reserved for addressing someone who ran over your dog. She is suddenly mute; points at my paper options. Wraps the book in silence. Next customer, she goes back into happy chatter....

When I lived in Dallas, TX, I ran into this kind of thinking all the time....which is, briefly stated, "Big companies should never be regulated or questioned. If I get ripped off, that is ok, because the only alternative is "communism/democrats/liberalism/america-haters" and that is worse."
