I Need To Get A New Computer. Give Me The Specs
I do a lot of processing, programming, and I'm running a personal edition of Oracle. So, give me the make, model, and specs of a new PC. Also, keep in mind that I'm going to be running Windows XP.

1. Give me a budget...
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 03:58 PM by Tandalayo_Scheisskop
And I will try to help.

I do this stuff for a living(LIVING??!! Bahahaha! I kill me!).

On edit: Do you have experience building computers or mechanical skills that might help you do so?

11. Athlon 64.

Gig ram. Minimum 2 200 gig SATA drives. Either a motherboard with NForce3 chipset and onboard video or if it does not have the onboard video, a Matrox Video Card. Unless you want to play games a lot. Then, I would recommend one of the mid-level Nvidia cards, like the higher range of the FX5600 series.

NEC or Pioneer DVD burner.

For a monitor, save some cash and get a 21"-24" CRT refurb. Cheap and good. I have a Nokia here and it is the best I have ever seen.

http://www.azatek.com for great refurbed monitor deals,

Anything more you need to know?

14. Mac
I have a G3 that i bought in 1998 and it has done me proud. I am going to but a Dual 1,8 G5 very soon.

The main thing i like about the Mac is the lack of viruses that can disabled it

15. Owner of internet cafe says he loves his Mac's
He said that he spends tons of time everyday cleaning up virus' on MS computers and none on the Mac's. Said some of his computers haven't had any problems in years. I don't need computer but I thought next time I buy one I am going to check into Apple. I am tired to of having to run programs daily to clean stuff.

19. I absolutely agree about the viruses.
I struggled with Windows for years, from 3.1 to 98. I was always getting crap in my system from the 'net. Since I've had this Mac, never a problem. I use OSX 10.3, and it's just mighty sweet.

I'd buy one if I could. For $2000, you could really make a killer box.
