My child is making a bomb for the Science Fair.
Apparently. She came home from school today and told me she needs a potato, two wires, two nails, and a clock.

What would be your first thought? Me? I'm thinking bomb.
But I'm not real scientifically-minded. She said something about the potato making the clock run, or something. Hmmm...

1. Potato battery, most likely...
And you need a really LOW powered digital clock to make it work.

2. a potato is a standard school way to make a battery
Just insert 2 different kinds of metal, connect wires to them, and you have a battery.

I had one of these when I was little! Yeah, it's legit, and pretty neat until the potatoes start to rot.

8. Yep. We did that in school.
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 05:26 PM by Pithlet
You can also use lemons.

On edit: We didn't make bombs. We made them into batteries which would light up a small bulb. And it really did work.

10. A bomb is an actual scientific tool.
It does not, hopefully, explode. Real quote: "Hey Bob, have you seen the hydrogen bomb? Yeah, it's down in the basement."

Anyway, in this case she's just making a battery.

11. My kid put one of those together last year
We had to get a meter to figure out how many potatos we needed to get the LED to light up though..

Iguess if you are using a clock and it doesnt work you can always hook up more potatoes

Look up potato battery on google.
