Ewww! There Was Just a 3 INCH LONG Thousand Legger In My Kitchen!!!
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 08:25 PM by The Nation
I am deathly, I mean, deathly afraid of bugs, even little ones.

I go into my kitchen all happily and positive (after just ordering a Kerry/Edwards t-shirt and some buttons) and I look up on the wall and there is a G I A N T thousand legger on the wall! I mean huge, like 3 inches long and huge and furry with like a million legs, I wanted to collapse.

I sprayed it with hairspray, but it just fell down from the wall into a plant. Then I sprayed it again and it jumped onto the floor and scurried under a shelf!

It's going to come back and kill me in my sleep, I just know it. :scared:

3. Do you have a cat?
Mine have been known to eat centipedes. It's gross, but they do the job.

5. Cats are great for bug duty
They are relentless-never give up until that bug is so dead. Sometimes mine eat them also but most of the time they leave them as a gift to be cleaned up later.

4. Memories of one I saw in Oceanside, CA
I was sitting on the couch with my mom and two year old sister when I saw one crawling across the floor. We cut it in two with a dust pan, and even after a few hours both halves were still twitching. Then there was one under the "step" that leads into our garage. To this day I always make sure there isn't anything there....they scare me, too.

10. I hate the way the legs keep twitching...
even after you've smushed the body with a tissue. I had one run across me in bed one night, and I still have nightmares about it.

6. Here's some things to do
It sounds like you have a giant millipede. Have someone check the plants in your kitchen to check and make sure they are not harborages for the critter. Make sure there isn't standing moisture in your kitchen, and keep lights off as much as possible. Moisture and light are major bug attractants.

Next, check outside. Do you have a lot of leaves/mulch near your house? This will encourage bugs, especially caterpillars and millipedes. Rake this stuff away from the foundation and make sure your yard is properly drained.

Tomorrow, go to a health food store and purchase some food grade diatemaceous earth. This product, made of ground up fossilized seashells, when sprinkled on milipedes and insects, cuts their skin/or exoskeleton, killing them. It is an organic product, and food grade is safe.

Hope this information is helpful. Yes, I work for a pest control company.

19. We get those little critters
here constantly, and I mean constantly. I've killed thousands of them, they come in from outside. I read that they are not poisonous but can bite. They're quick too.

21. You should see the ones we get...
Where I work, we've got some sort of multi-colored millipedes that make my skin crawl. All my life I've been afraid of spiders, but they're nothing compared to these little creatures.
