gives you more ammunition than you could have possibly hoped for. It is evident that this administration invaded Iraq with no good reason, no plan and not enough troops to accomplish whatever they intended to. And now, they're asking for more troops and even more money.
Don't ask me, I thought it was a horrible idea from the very beginning. However, now that we're there, the U.S. has botched pretty much everything. They went in without allies and are seen as occupiers, and are the target of an insurgency that becomes stronger and more widespread, everyday. The loss of life continues to escalate. More than 1100 Americans are dead, more than 8000 are wounded, and more than 1300 Iraqis are dead, many of them children, feeding the seething hatred towards the U.S. There weren't terrorists in Iraq before; Saddam wouldn't have permitted it. But they sure are in there now, pouring over the borders, finding willing recruits among the disaffected and angry Iraqi population. And we now know that tons of explosives were unguarded and are probably being used by the insurgents against our brave soldiers, in car bombings and improvised explosive devices. This is unconscionable. We are supposedly training the Iraqis to defend themselves, but this sure isn't working. Anybody who signs up automatically becomes a target, including the 49 trainees who were massacred this past weekend. Allawi is no longer taking talking points from The White House and blames the coalition, aka the USA, for this. It just gets worse and worse.;(
What more can I tell you? You can get your talking points on the nightly news, though I cannot imagine that your friend cannot see this for himself. I heard an interview with a journalist, who had been living in "The Green Zone" of Baghdad, until just recently. He said that those who have lived there for a long time just cannot understand how there still is any dialogue about this in this country. Those who have seen what is going on know that every effort made by the U.S. in Iraq has failed completely. We need regime change at home.:grr:
