Up late with the fleas...didn't know there was such a hell as this
Went to visit a friend back east two weeks ago. About 3 days in to my 5-day visit, she says, "Oh, the dog has fleas, but not very many."
Came back with my suitcase infested, my clothing infested, bitten chewed and breaking out in hives...am extremely allergic to flea bites. Have washed everything in hot water with bleach and flea killer, dried everything on high in the dryer, sprayed, and done it all again several times over. Had a pest control come out and spray my home including all the laundry in piles which are in plastic containers in the house and in the garage...pest guy siad he doesn't normally do that, but did it because I insisted.

I don't have pets, the flea spray from the pest guy is not working, am having little no-see-ums jumping up on my legs, have to wear shoes all the time in house so I don't absorb the poison residue from the carpet and flooring, have had third time with fleas hatching IN MY GODDAM HAIR, and am calling the pest control back tomorrow to come back out and respray.

Never thought life could turn into such a living hell.
Can't sleep...fleas will eat me.

Thanks...needed to vent.

2. Thanks for the sympathy
have used RID, but had to wash immediately after putting it on because the damn RID bottle cap caught in my hair and flung some of that poison right under my eye...a big no-no. Am in a shower cap right now with olive oil on my hiar, smothering the buggers. Have some RID gel am going to use in a couple of days.

Also, my car carpeting became infested...used RAID...worked great.

I am so damn mad at my friend for acting as if this is no big thing...she says she hasn't had a problem...yeah, right...she's on weekly antihistamine allergy shots.

have learned that adult female fleas will lay 20-28 eggs after every feeding....GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! They multiply fast!

3. I had really bad fleas when I evicted my rentoers and moved back
The fleas were so thick they literally had flystrips up to catch them.

buy some foggers -- and MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS OFF -- Turn of your cicuit breakers and ALL of your pilots lights.

I have had no troubles since and that was almost two years ago.

5. Thanks, I considered using foggers
but am no good at pilot lights, both turning off or back on, and live alone. Am in a city for a short period, attending school, and know only a couple of people beyond school.

Damn...I feel like a pariah.

It could be worse. It could be crabs.:)

Hang on and don't let your mind race to fast, or you'll have more problems than just temporary fleas. IMHO

6. Borrow a dog whose owner uses "frontline"
That stuff is great -- kills the fleas.

I used "frontline" on my animals -- killed the fleas.

Also there is a produce containing -- borate crystals -- from Dr. Goodpet (Inside Flea Relief) This product kills fleas, cockroaches, ants and silverfish -- can be sprinkled on carpets, furniture and upholstery.

I used two cans of this stuff and also used "frontline" on my animals -- no more fleas for years now. I have a can of the crystals -- just in case.

Google for a source of Dr.Goodpet -- I found the can at a large health food store in Tacoma, WA.

You might want to call a Vet for suggestions -- remember that the poison could be bad for your health.

A friend of mine in Florida does not use poisons but will use borate or borax crystals for cockroaches which can be found in every home down there -- according to him.

8. I'd ask for a return visit from the exterminator for no charge
And I dont know that I'd use that frontline idea. They tell you it'll kill fleas that jump on the cat or dog after Frontline is applied, but I dont think you can count on an entire flea infestation to leap onto the animal. And the eggs won't leap onto the animal at all.

10. the Dr. Goodpet takes care of the flea eggs
and the Frontline -- somehow works -- Vets have told me that often only one pet needs the Frontline and the poison kills off the rest of the fleas. Apparently fleas will jump on and off a pet and the poison knocks them dead. Frontline is only useful if you have a friend who uses Frontline on their dog already -- some people don't approve of using this on their pets. But I would rather use this then have fleas and all the side effects of fleas.

Your problem is that you don't have pets to attract the fleas. My friend in Florida (PhD in Biology) won't use poison but does use boric acid for tropical pests.

I do know that using both Frontline and the Dr. Goodpet (1 year flea kill Guarantee on the can) really worked for me.

The way the boric acid works is to dessicate the flea eggs and the fleas. Friends who live in the tropics put boric acid in their kitchen cabinets.

Tell your friend about Dr. Goodpet -- she might not want to use Frontline -- but she should be using Dr. Goodpet -- Inside Flea Relief!! Pets should NOT have to suffer fleas!!

12. I moved into a house that had a dog that had fleas. Let me tell you
I had no fleas but then out they came. It was hell. I had sick animals and fleas just loved me. I tried the cheap things, like bombs from vets and finally had to get a regular man in to do the whole house twice. It worked but what a job and for someone that had no fleas on her animals it really was a shock.I guess those fleas have real staying power.
