http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/3955289.stmThat really sucks. John Peel you were a man who truly brought great joy to many many many ears. Rest in peace.

2. Wow. That does indeed suck. |

Being a US citizen, I only really knew of his work from live radio sessions I have recordings of, and the hushed, reverent tones in which his name was spoken.

I loved his programming and his knowledge, he introduced me to a lot I wouldn't have heard otherwise simply because it was on his show. R.I.P.

14. This is just absolutely horrible news |

Earlier this year, John played my late husband's band on his show. Not only that, but he sent the band a postcard (which I cherish, of course), telling them how much he really liked their debut CD.
This was amazing to all of us on so many levels. First, FUCKING JOHN PEEL LIKED THEIR BAND (!!!!!!), he was kind enough to actually write them back about it (can you imagine how many demos the man must receive?), and the band could never get played by our own local piece-of-shit station "where the music (supposedly) matters" until after Alan's suicide, when the surviving band members went on the air to play a tribute to him.
I have no idea how many Peel sessions records and CDs I have; the man was truly larger than life to me. This is a tremendous loss, not only to music, but to me personally.
