Handing out alternatives to candy on Halloween |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 11:53 AM by realFedUp
Ok, I got a lot of little bags of chips.... are those weenie alternatives to candy or are they fair game? Tired of propping up the sugar and chocolate industry in this country.
Talk to me.

Most kids would be glad to get a quarter. Then they can buy whatever they want.

One family always gave out toothbrushes. That was always a thrill. Then there were the people who'd give out these gorgeous homemade treats and my mother would never let me eat them (my mother was so paranoid, she'd dice my apples and then decide I couldn't eat it anyway because it might be poisoned - as if I'd want to then. Actually, I never wanted to eat the apples anyway because they were all beat up from bouncing around in the bag with everything else. Wow, this is a long parenthetical statement).

but we knew all the neighbors well, so it wasn't an issue.
Personally, I think people should just give them the candy. It's for the kids and it's once per year. I wish grown-ups in general would just quit overanalyzing it.
My two cents as a parent.

Their father and I always negotiated with our kids, buying the candy back from them the day after Halloween. They learned a lot about how to make a deal, and we got to hide the candy in the back of the freezer. For us.

49. I used to give out comic books |
|
and it made me very popular.
One kid was dressed up like a ninja, and when I gave him a comic, his eyes got real big. He asked if he could have more than one, and I said sorry.
The next time the doorbell rang, I opened the door to see the same little kid, having thrown off his costume, standing there shivering in his underwear. (it was a cold night.)
I gave him a second comic.
Now I no longer get the books for free, so it's just candy.
