With all the talk of stolen and vandalized signs, I would like to find out what good examples you've seen of "edited" signs. Here's mine
In the 70s, a local synagogue had a sign that read: "Save Soviet Jewery" under which someone wrote, very neatly I might add, "Win Valuable Prizes." The Rabbi left it up for weeks and we all thought it was very funny.

Someone painted in "Die" underneath
2d Place - the "Huh???" someone painted under the "Deaf Child" words on a roadsign.
Favorite non-altered sign: "Road Ends in Water"

8. Why would there be a sign for frost heave? |
|
I thought that was something that happens in the garden. Is it a problem elsewhere?
Don't laugh, I'm from the south.

11. Roads buckle causing damage to cars, if a driver... |

...doesn't slow down. I guess they go flying up and over and KABLOOM!
I live in Vermont. It was new to me, too. Hence, my puking jokes. Actually, I never met a frost heave that was any trouble. Maybe it bugs the truck guys?
Shrug... dunno. But the signs pop up in the spring, like the daffodils!

I've never lived where it got that cold for very long. Down here, we get some bad potholes after an ice storm, but I just thought it was because our roads are crappy.

12. During the heyday of the Pol Pot regime, there was a group at Yale, |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 10:18 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
a branch of the Spartacus Youth League, a group so left wingnut that some suspected they were FBI provocateurs, had signs up on campus that advertised a film called something like The Exciting Revolution in Democratic Kampuchea. (Democratic Kampuchea was what Pol Pot renamed Cambodia after taking over.)
Now Yalies could get very ambitious and creative about defacing signs, but this one was subtle and perfect: The Exciting Revolution in "Democratic" Kampuchea
My second prize citation will not mean anything to anyone who has never read earlier editions of Our Bodies Ourselves, but I like it. The sign was posted on the Yale campus and said something like, "Womyn's Dance Saturday Night--Alll Womon-Centered Womyn Welcome." The addition was a pencil-scrawl that said, "In Amerika they call us lousy spellers."
By the way, in the past week or so, someone has been going around Minneapolis/St. Paul adding a sticker that says "Bush" (in white capital letters) to all the Stop signs.
