1. Well. . .
Gotta tell you that the thought of Depp as Wonka, directed by Tim Burton isn't exactly making me want to rush out and see the remake.

3. I absolutely can't stand that site
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 02:31 PM by ibegurpard
When I'm searching for movie reviews and I see that his is the only one available, I'll just skip it.
He spends half of his time talking about HIMSELF rather than the movies. Hate him and do not understand why he has a following.

Edit: As with any Tim Burton project, this will definitely be of interest to me.

12. Yeah, he's our bastard
and for that, I'm appreciative. But he's still a breathless dork. Harry is good for gossip, breaking news, and fanboy gushing, but he's godawful at anything more:

6. This one will be closer to the book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"
In fact, that's the title, not "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". I love the original film, but I'm very interested to see where Burton and Depp take this, and even moreso if it's more faithful to the original novel. Though, honestly, I have had little faith in Burton since "Planet of the Apes."

7. I think that this movie is supposedly more faithful to the book
I love the original movie with Gene Wilder. It came out when I was a kid, and everyone in my class went to see it. It'll be one of the first DVDs I buy when I buy a DVD player.

because he's not in the middle of shooting a scene? In all honesty that picture looks fake.

Is it just me or does Depp have an almost Walken-esque look in that picture? Reminded me of Walken anyway.

mentioned for the part. He would have fit too, imo.

11. I unabashedly love Burton! And Johnny Depp... can you say YUM?
Although, as I was remarked to the Husband about Depp as Wonka, He replied, "well, Johnny Depp raises the Horny Factor for you..." To which I replied, "dressed as Willie Wonka, No, But gimme Depp dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow!!!" (I Have a thing for pirates, even going so far as on my graduation from Nursing School, Turning the New Cap sideways and yelling out HARRRR!) Looking back at films like Sleepy Hollow which I loved due to the dark spin Burton put on it and awkwardness that Depp portrayed Crane with and one of my all time favorites Edward Scissorhands, I can forgive him for the likes of Planet of the Apes and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Dark, yes, Tim Burton, Note I didn't say he Shot things Dark, I said he put a dark spin on the film....I meant he seems to have a dark side to him. I guess I should have been more specific.

14. Tim Burton? Dark? Impossible.
He insists on shooting in daylight, typically near the equator to get the most intensity. Of this I am SURE!@

23. Yes, his constant overexposed "washed-out desert look"
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 05:53 PM by Rabrrrrrr
cinematography is utterly distracting. It was okay in Batman, but then it got old.

It's like, "Okay, Tim, we get it - you like light; you want everyone squinting all the time, but geez, Tim, not every film has to make the viewer think of wasting away from dehydration in the desert. Making a film isn't about increasing soda sales, you know."

32. Yes, Pinhole was absofuckinglutely groundbreaking
the way it was so bright, we actually had to bring pinhole boards and project the image onto our chests and watch with a mirror to make the subtitles work.

It was all downhill after that

THE VOICES OF 'BRIDE'
2005 will be a busy year for Elfman and Burton fans, with two major projects the duo plan to collaborate on. First is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and in October, the long anticipated stop-action animated The Corpse Bride, produced and potentially "codirected" by Burton, with animation by Will Vinton Studios (now under the supervision of NmBC director Henry Selick). The film's voice cast was recently announced, and it includes several Burton regulars: Johnny Depp (as Victor), Albert Finney, Helena Bonham Carter (as the Corpse Bride), Christopher Lee, Emily Watson (as Victor's wife, Victoria), and Joanna Lumley.

'CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY' AND... DRACULA?
On June 30th, Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures announced production on Tim Burton's Charlie and The Chocolate Factory had begun. The film, based on the story of Roald Dahl, stars Johnny Depp (his fourth film with Burton) as Willy Wonka, and Freddie Highmore (Two Brothers) as Charlie. The cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter, David Kelly, Noah Taylor, James Fox, Missi Pyle and Christopher Lee (!). The film is being produced by Brad Grey and Richard D. Zanuck from a screenplay by John August (Big Fish). Danny Elfman is scoring.

I always thought of Wonka as a skinny 50- or 60-something with a moustache and goatee.

Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 05:48 PM by flamingyouth
"Planet of the Apes" really turned me off.

Not thrilled that Danny Elfman is doing the score. Not a fan there, sadly. Even his stuff on "Desperate Housewives" bugs me. :(

But having said that, I can't wait, as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is one of my all-time favorite kids' books. :D

29. The opening is very Burton-esque too
It kind of reminds me of the opening of HBO's Carnivale, too. I've been talking up this show to everyone...it's like Edward Scissorhands the series, with the twisted view of suburbia, black humor and whimsy and all.

27. Ugh, I Wish Tim Burton Would STOP Re-Making Movies!
He is a genius, but please Tim, STICK TO YOUR OWN ORIGINAL MOVIES.

His re-makes suck.

And he is screwing with a classic trying to re-make Willy Wonka. The sad part is that generations of youth will not know the ORIGINAL Willy Wonka, but will come to know this sad, inferior replacement.

31. Except that Roald Dahl
was never happy with the earlier version. He was never happy with his attempt at a screenplay.

Dahl's family gave the OK for Tim to give it another try.

28. Awesome, with reservations
On the JD fanboards this afternoon, there was general concensus that the top hat is probably real, but we couldn't decide about the glasses. Are they a geunine prop or just his glasses getting to and from the set? And he probably has some sort of spikey hairdo. JD's been turning up lately with ultra short (for him! :D ) hair.

Way cool there, Johnny! :D

I can't wait to see this. :bounce: I wasn't a fan of the Gene Wilder version. I like Gene Wilder just fine, but him in that part didn't do much for me.

BTW, if you want to read a guy with an hilarious man-crush on Johnny, read http://www.joblo.com.
