1. Yeah, it's cool
Not exactly ritzy, but totally safe -- and it's fun.

3. Is it fun because of the college flavor?

4. It doesn't exactly have "college flavor"...
...in the sense of Ann Arbor, MI or Amherst, MA. It's fun because there's a lot of old-time bars with live music, you're close to Harlem, and it's a really diverse neighborhood with lots of artsy young people.

5. It is fine, but it is a little out of the way for site seeing and so on.

6. It's cool
Subway @ 110 and Broadway or just walk to 96 & B'way for express.

The 235 west 107th address is between Amsterdam and Broadway, stay west of Amsterdam to be on the safe side

Great jazz club (SMOKE) at 106 and B'way.

Columbia starts st 114th.

Peace

7. If you don't know Manhattan, I wouldn't stay there.
Just my 2 cents. The first apartment I lived in in NYC was at 106th and Amsterdam. A peeping Tom standing on my fire escape in the middle of the night got me out of there real quick, on top of the guy who tried to force his way in behind me through the front doors. That was almost 20 years ago, so I'm sure things have changed since then... Don't take my word for it. :)

8. It has changed a lot - much nicer now
That neighborhood is much better than it was even ten years ago. It's still kinda iffy on the east side of Amsterdam and in spots, but otherwise not so bad.
