my 1st aid cLass finaLLy came in handy

monday after work i came home did the usuaL routine - sit on the couch and wait for dinner. ms. sniffa wasn't feeLing too weLL, but she's a sick person so i didn't pay it too much mind. she kept twitching (hard enough for me to notice) but had no recoLLection that she was doing it. now i was starting to get concerned and taLked her into going to the emergency room - she refused. then she was waLking and feLL down. i heLped her up and she promptLy feLL again. each time she had no idea how she ended up on the fLoor.

so she finaLLy agreed that she shouLd go to the ER. before going she wanted to change (she had to wear good underwear before changing into a johnie). as i sat eating my dinner and waiting for her i heard a noise from the bedroom - a weird one - so i ran in there. ms. sniffa was face down - hunched over the bed, and she sounded Like she was crying. so i went over to give her a hug and get her moving. i noticed she was compLeteLy cLenched and shaking - she was having a seizure. the sound i thought was her crying was her choking on her vomit.

so i Laid her back on to the fLoor (not easy to move a seizing person) cLeared her mouth and kept her on her side. i wanted to grab the phone to caLL 911 but i didn't want to Leave her on her back. eventuaLLy she stopped seizing. she was gurgLing stiLL though and breathing heavy. i kept trying to taLk to her (yeLLing reaLLy). i think she acknowLedged me because she finaLLy made eye contact - her pupiLs were the size of pennies, and even though the Lights were on, nobody was home. it was the same Look my my nana had when she became a vegetabLe (massive stroke).

i ran to grab the phone (couLdn't find it - one of the times she feLL, she knocked the phone under the couch) - when i came back to be with her whiLe caLLing EMS she was sitting up and smiLing at me as if nothing happened. she was out for a few minutes and i was pretty sure she was vegetized.

so i threw her in the car and took her to the hospitaL. she started to seize again so she got rush-rush service. they pumped her fuLL of meds and stopped the seizures.

she'd never had one before, and i'd never seen one before. horribLe fucking night, but good outcome.

i think i need a drink.

ps: the doctors were asking her questions ("what's today's date" "who's the president") - when asked who the president was she repLied, "unfortunateLy, bush". god bLess her. :D

although her comment about Bush sounds like she has her wits about her.

10. i think

it was a combo of her doc upping her weLbutrin (sp?) and her running out of adavant (sp?) 2 days prior. at the ER, they just rebaLanced her med LeveLs and that seemed to fix her up nice. she'LL hopefuLLy get the fuLL foLLow up from her doctor (EEG, C/T scan, whatever).

Seamus, kitty and escape artist extraordinaire, decided to get out yesterday morning. I was worried sick all day and we didn't want to leave the house until he came back. So we watched the game from our couch.
