"It's the unions who are causing jobs to go overseas!"
"They're outserved the usefulness and make it too expensive to do business in the U.S." That's the kind of shit I have to listen to here at work from these right-wing assholes. Anybody else work with shitheads like this?

1. Ask them if they're willing to work an mandatory 80 hour work week.
Then come back at the unions. Or maybe they'd like to work for $5.15/hr.

Business is organized. Labor should be allowed to negotiate the best price for their product.

Nevermind the greedy motherfuckers making millions of dollars to tank companies.

2. tell them unions built this country,
and unions are the ONLY REASON some of these non-union companies pay decent wages.(they are afraid the workers will vote in a union). and if all else fails, tell them to go fuck themselves

3. Work with? Fortunately , no...
...but that's a meme that's going around the business magazines and books these days, so at least you can accuse them of just parroting the latest fad explanation.

15. That's al these folks do is speak in cliches
You never can have a serious conversation with them. Like a couple weeks ago I heard global test crap, taken totally out of context. "Yeah, maybe we can be run by France". Huh?!?!?!?

13. Yes, he hates unions. He has been a Human Resources manager for 30+ years
in his line of work, and has been involved many times in contract negotiations with various unions. I think his choice of career has warped his thinking about unions, since he was always in opposition to them, especially during negotiations. Both my parents are Republican. Their heads almost exploded when they saw the Kerry sticker on my car; they simply cannot understand why I would support a "damn Democrat" and they don't believe me when I try to explain. Oh, yeah, lots of fun in my family these days, but always remember - * is a uniter, not a divider! :eyes:

6. Damn unions!
If they'd just eliminate the 40 hour work week and let bosses make people work until the job is done we wouldn't be losing jobs! Plus, why do we need minimum wage? We should just trust the bosses to pay people what they think they are worth. Too much damn money has been spent with stupid things like clearly marked fire exit signs, fire extinguishers, ergonmically designed equipment and such. Our grandparents didn't need any of that stuff. Today's workers are just wimps! And they are greedy! How dare they expect to get paid a minimum wage? Vacation time? Sick time? And why can't we use more kids to work? That would just keep them out of trouble. And since they are kids we could pay them even less than adults!

</sarcasm>

..."If they have no other responsibility beyond their own profit, why should the government grant them limited liability? If they just exist for themselves, why should the rest of us absorb part of their risk?"

17. I'd ask her, but she's not speaking to me
I'm a brainwashed radical liberal. She is a nonvoting "independent."

Supposedly my trying to convince her to (a) vote and (b) vote for Kerry was "trying to control" her.

9. If it wasn't for Unions and the brave Men and Women who...
...fought (and I mean Fought) for better working conditions and a fair wage, your dumb-ass worker buddies would be slaving for the company store, working 70-80 hour weeks for shit pay and dying like flies because of lousy working/safety conditions.

16. The ratio of corporate exec pay to their blue collar workers' pay
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 09:24 AM by lpbk2713
is more lopsided now than it has ever been. This is why companies are moving overseas. The greedy fat cats want to maximize profits and they don't care about the American workers who supported them for so long. Workers are expendible. The important thing is to keep the P&L statement looking good.

Ed: I was an active member of IBEW for 35 years. Proud of it too.

18. If it wasn't for unions
They would not have the 40 hour work week.

They would not have health insurance.

They would not have retirement benefits.

They would not have job security.

and on and on and on......

It always amazes me that people take so many things for granted. As if the businesses just decided to do these things out of the goodness of their own hearts.
