My disabled son only gets crappy insurance coverage. |

I fought this battle five years ago, and now I have to fight it again.
My husband's company's insurance is changing and transferring to a new provider of insurance. I had to fight to get coverage for my son's speech therapy five years ago. Even then, they only granted limited coverage because they consider it a "developmental problem" even though autism is an Axis II (or is it III?) diagnosis under DSM-IV. But at least the entire financial burden for his therapy didn't fall on us.
Now with having a new insurance company, I'm back to square one: NO Coverage for therapy that is supposed to run us about $100 a week. The best I can hope for is putting the expenses into the flex plan to get a pre-tax deduction.
I'm going to make a couple of polite inquiries of the Benefits dept, but I can't push it. It's too politically scary right now.
It seems that the those who are least able to advocate for themselves are hosed by our terrible insurance system. I hate these bastards. Five years ago I thought I was going to go insane fighting them.
A hug or kind word would help at this point. I feel like I'll go to my grave fighting these battles for my oldest child in our so-called "Christian" nation of greed and fascism.
On edit: I know there are others out there with many worse problems. I'm not unaware of that. At least we have some coverage. It's just the idea that my son is treated differently for what is probably a congenital condition, while others who create their own health problems can get coverage, burns my ass.

1. Well, here's a big hug |
|
 while I also whine about my son's insurance. He'll be off our policy in January, when he turns 24. When I started calling around to find coverage, the first companies said, don't waste your time. My son had cancer five years ago, he just had his five-year checkup and everything is fine. But now none of the insurance companies are willing to take him! x(

2. Thanks. I hope he can get coverage soon. |

More than anything, I'm glad to hear his CA has been defeated. Thanks for the hug.

:grouphug: for you too. I know this goes on, but it still stuns me when I hear of it. Without insurance, even lesser kinds of health problems are going to become a financial hardship. This just shouldn't be. Our "wealthy, advanced, superior" nation should be ashamed of this.

3. Good luck and keep us posted! |

I HATE insurance companies. Once I had my insurance company deny payment for a visit to the emergency room and I kicked and screamed and they finally covered it! B**tards! You gotta fight bullies with the only language they understand.
