looking at the forcasted storm track - I'm taking this one seriously
we had one come through couple of years ago and lost power for 3 days...
for this time of year, heating the house is not a concern (although we do have a wood stove if needed), we have a gas-propane stove for cooking. The big problem is water - power goes out and there goes our well pump.
will have to stock up on water for flushing the toilet, and drinking/cooking..
with that last storm we made frequent runs to a neighbor's house to scoop water out of their pool so we could flush the toilet. coolers came in handy for keeping things cold like milk, soda, butter etc... will have to get them out of the back room

OBX denizens are prepared for this sort of thing. They'll ALL make themselves scarce for a Cat 5 storm. Even the fools who usually have hurricane parties. This fucker better not come hundreds of miles inland, though, and spawn whole-county-destroying tornados like Fran did. Folks 'round these here parts will shoot at it if it approaches. Seriously.
