Driver, 10 - Runs Over & Kills His 4 Year Old Cousin

SACRAMENTO - A 4-year-old is dead after his 10-year-old cousin backed a car over him, police spokesman Sgt. Justin Risley said.
The mother of the 10-year-old gave him her keys about 6 p.m. Sunday and told him to start the car outside an Elder Creek Road home. The car had traveled backward about seven feet when the boy heard a scream. He got out to find his cousin under the car near the left rear wheel, Risley said.

Nicholas Shankar of Modesto was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead Monday.

The 10-year-old's mother was cited for child neglect. The case will be submitted to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office for review, Risley said.
