I hate making things on order |
|
Two days ago the marshmallow woman brings home some apples, Apple pie sure would taste good hint hint. Now, I have been seriously thinking about apple pie, but, I'm an artiste. I can't just get the creative juice flowing on demand, so the apples are sitting in the kitchen, and I'm trying to get in a pie baking mood. So far the best I can do is eh, maybe later.

1. I have a pie crust tip I've been dying to try out... |
|
Maybe you can try it out and it will motivate you. Make your pie crust as you normally do (I hope using cold ice water in the mix) and THEN, when you are rolling it out, spread a very thin layer of shortening on the crust after the first rolling, fold it, and roll it again. This supposedly makes the crust quite flaky. I haven't made a pie since I read this tip, though.

2. That makes a lot of sense |

That's how they make flaky Danish pastry.

3. Could you do that with purchased rolled out crust? |
|
We have devolved to the point of using the folded kind, but I have sprinkled flour on it and rolled it out a bit. It helps, but I'll be interested in trying your suggestion, perhaps with a little shortening sprinkled with flour and then rolled out. :D
