My sister was fired for having too many kids |
|
she is Catholic, younger then me, had 5 kids as a good Catholic , and her husband left her when she told him she was going to vote against Bush (long story).. anyway, her ex is an asshole, doesnt pay child support on time, etc...and she works her butt off at a job ..one day the supervisor gets mad at her for taking a day off work cause her ex says he doesnt want to watch one of the kids..which was his time to do so.. She cant afford a lawyer So now shes fired for taking the day off (her boss sounds like a republican? he is).. I felt like calling Indiana Right to Life and asking them to foot the bill, since they are so gung ho about women giving birth... I hope she makes it..Yet another saga of the compassionate conservatives that are out there thumbing their noses at single mothers .

1. This is the everyday stuff that makes repugs look repugnant. |
|
Sorry, I hope things go better for her. That are lots of us who care and wish we could change the attitudes about corporate power and bosses. Call the Human Rights Dept. and the Attorney General's office.

I don't know why so many men feel that when the marriage breaks up they're no longer fathers. It's almost as if they only consent to be fathers when they are getting sex. Don't tell me a lot of men don't feel that way, cause it's true, gentlemen, I'm sorry.
As far as the boss is concerned. He's a jerk too.

4. Sounds Like She Was Dismissed For Missing Work |
|
I doubt her former employer cares how many children she has. If she was taking off because the child was sick, she may be covered by the FMLA; otherwise, unexused absences is legal grounds for dismissal. It's possible her boss was an asshole and didn't follow the laws. The company I'm employed by is famous for violating FMLA and CFRA.

what I can say to help, but boy do I share your frustration at those anti-living-kid-bots. I remember years ago, before I had kids, working with single mothers who had to make a choice between buying food and paying for the day care and I do not exaggerate here, that was the choice. I always felt like they should just call the local All life stops at birth repubs and ask their advice. But then again the way these people are into self hatred and guilt who knows what they would say.
Hang in there for your sis.

It's a shame.
The fact that anybody who isn't white or rich still likes republicans makes mur'ka a sad place to live in.

11. Once again we see evidence that RW and Christianity doesn't mix |
|
A man leaves his family because he disagree's with his wife politically.
A man fires a woman for taking care of her family.
A bet both of these bastards go to church on Sundays and attend pro-life events. Cop-out Christians the both of them.

because this kind of thing makes me want to break something.
Single mothers get the shit end of the stick in a number of ways, and "compassionate conservatives" should be among the first to reap what they sow in terms of these kinds of issues. Don't have an abortion, don't don't don't! But if you do have the kid, fuck ya and don't look at them for no handout or sympathy.
It's very difficult with work--you can't work late because you have to get home, finding someone to watch the kid/kids when they're off from school but you have to work, paying the babysitter/daycare with one income...ugh.
I don't want to get into :nopity: territory, but dang, I'm sorry for your sister and I hope she is able to sue that guy, or at least find another position soon.

most do not work on contingency, but most are also compassionate and might point her towards a paralegal org or other group
For instance, if the company did not deal with ALL employees in the same manner on this issue, it could impeach them as far as excessive absences.
If a company is going to USE the excessive ansence excuse...they must handle all cases in a similar manner.

Oh Mari333, what a sad story for your sister and for you to have to see happen. I bet if we put out an ad in the paper for stories just like this - we could write a book.
I have seen it happen myself during the holidays (our un-busy time) and a co-worker called in once too many times because her kids were sick. Three 'counts' your out! The boss fired her. We weren't even busy! We could have done perfectly fine without her there. Now, why would the boss want to lay someone off during the holiday season. I wil never forget that day.
I hope your sister finds help soon.
