I'm totally procrastinating by being here at DU. Are you? |
|
What are you really supposed to be doing?
I've got papers to grade. Here they sit, in a pile. Ugh!
Reading the lounge posts is keeping me sane.

4. I too am procrastinating |
|
But I feel I deserve it. I just took a probability test that I've been studying for almost nightly for the past three weeks.
Our statistics department on campus has a policy of allowing a page of notes on the test. Sadly, this course is given through the math department. I had to memorize a bunch of pdfs and expected values, etc... .
But now I should be either reading for another test I have tomorrow, or reading some papers relating to my thesis.

10. How much did you scrunch onto that one page of notes? |
|
What size font? Did you use all the white space? I would have squeezed every last drop of space if they let me take in notes!
I never had a math class after the basics -- until the dreaded statistics class in my doctoral program. HOLY S**T... I was up a creek without a paddle. Just happened that the prof was in LOVE with computers and let us do EXTRA CREDIT. Saved my patooty! Got out with an A- which for a doctoral class isn't considered that great but I could have kissed the ground.
Needless to say, my dissertation was not quantitative in nature. Ha ha.
Good luck on the exam!

|
I am looking for a good book to order. What do you think of yours? Any other speech class pointers for me? It's been a looooooong time since I taught a speech class.
(still procrastinating...with 4 papers to go)
And then, I have to grade some mid-terms.
Oi oi oi!

|
a really good thing she has us doing is bringing in tapes to tape ourselves while we speak in front of the class.
I'm looking to go into teaching History at college level, do you have any pointers for me? I'm a semester away from graduating community college with an Associates in General Studies.

19. Tough gig if you want it full time. |
|
One of the guys on my wing, a history adjunct, just received his doctorate, but he's still part time.
You need to get a doctorate from a good university or college in order to find a solid full time job as a professor.
Also, history is the one field where P.E. teachers seem to get classes to teach in high schools, so always decreases the chances that majors find full time positions even in high schools. BUT it can happen.
Join a history society (at a four year school) or group, and watch the job listings for information.

17. Picked a watermelon, homegrown, must chill...ergo. |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 04:47 PM by indigobusiness
Still have peppers, tomatoes, and a single kamikaze watermelon vine has taken over the upper lawn. Four melons remain and I'm already mourning their passing.
It is what it is, but the watermelon patch story from 'Suttree' was the funniest ever. Anybody have any similar notions about my melons and I'll lock their thread, permanently.

I'm having fun with this thread and don't want it locked.
Wow! You are still growing fruit and veggies? Tonight it's going to frost (think for the first time) and I fear I will finally lose my hearty geraniums. Otherwise, the squash and tomatoes were finito long ago. Short growing season in Vermont.
I could use some melon! Yum!

Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 05:45 PM by indigobusiness
Actually five, counting the one being chilled, and THEY are out of this world. The tomatoes and peppers are typical in their fantasticness, but the melon vine is a monstrosity, prolific beyond all reason, and the melons give you a quasi-illegal buzz. Never seen the like.
I am willing to share.

"dose bones, dose bones"?
A melon is possibly a berry, as is a tomato.
edit- Oh those hyphenated phrases...whats the rule on THAT. I'm fairly cliche' ridden. Must know.
I take the berry comment back. The rind of melons is very unberry-like.
disclaimer: Not meant in any bigoted way whatsoever. Forgive me for I know not what I say.
