Digital Cable? Is it worth it? |
|
Just saw an ad for Comcast Digital Cable for $25/month and was wondering if it's worth the cost?
Anyone here with digital cable?

we had Direct TV for about 5 years and recently switched. I actually think the picture quality is better than DTV, plus you don't have to worry about losing the reception when a storm comes.
I think we are paying a little bit more for roughly the same number of channels (maybe a few more), but it's worth it. Plus, we have our cable modem through COX, so we get a cheaper rate on it

3. No. 1) Entry level price (it goes up). 2) Upload speed slow. |
|
Upload speed, for MN, is 256kb. DSL gave me 768kb.
The $25 price is an intro and will go up to $42 (if you have cable) or $50 (if you don't have cable).
Now add in the cost of a cable modem.
And a router if you have more than one PC and hope Comcast can't sniff it out.
Then a hardware firewall.
Don't forget, DSL is dedicated to you. You share cable with others and the smarter ones can find their way in, especially if you're on the same segment. Get a software firewall too. I've both.)
While affordable DSL download speed is around 1.5mb, upload speed is more often greater than cable.

6. Depends on the channels you get |
|
Sundance, IFC and Cartoon Network are worth it, IMO.
And if you can spring for HBO, it's highly recommended.

8. check what channels you get |
|
and decide for yourself if its worth it. My parents have digital cable and it blows. You have to pay more for any worthwhile channels.
