4. Bill Buckner got the blame for what Calvi Schiraldi and Bob Stanley did! |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 10:58 PM by maveric
WE had the Mets down to ONE FUCKING STRIKE, and Schiraldi couldnt get it. Then Stanley proceded to melt down and let the Mets tie it up. Buckner got a bad rap on that one.

8. Right on! We had them at one strike 3 TIMES! |
|
It was mainly Schiraldi and the idiot manager McNamara who kept feeding them fastballs. The worst thing ever for me was to go through that. the WORST!!! I forgive Buckner and Stanley, they never should have been there.

7. Bill Buckner did NOT blow that game! |
|
As I recalled he allowed it to be tied, that is all...other folks allowed the Mets to win!

9. the game was already tied |
|
Buckner's boot allowed Ray Knight to score the winning run. I'm not even sure he would have beaten Mookie Wilson to the bag, as slowly as that ball was hit. Buckner was a very good major league player. It's a shame he's remembered for that alone. Hopefully, he can rest easier.

11. thanks for the memory refresher... |
|
All I remember is the Sox had it, and then disaster struck...And the Buckner miscue became the target for disdain and it ruined him. And it was unfair!
Hard to believe it was 18 years ago!

10. I am thrilled for the Bosox, but I loved Bill Buckner and think he should |
|
be forgiven. He was actually a very good ball player.
Easy for me to say though, I'm a (gasp, weep, weep) a Met's fan.
Thank you to Boston, BTW, for sticking it up the ass of that fat psycho Repuke Steinbrenner.

Bill Buckner was one of the most competent players in the MLB--also so intelligent and low key. But accidents will happen... So, his treatment in Boston was, if somewhat normal, also very cruel.
No wonder, he has stayed away from the East--and will continue to, despite this win.

15. Huh? You mean that guy who used to play for the Celts? |
|
What the heck has he got to do with anything? Did he bank a slam dunk off the rim or something?
Oh, wait, that was Quinn Buckner. Never mind... :-)
Oh yes, the said Celts won their first title in 1957... against St. Louis. Impossible, you say? St. Louis not even in the NBA? They were in 1957, with the St. Louis (now Atlanta) Hawks. It gets weirder... the B's took their last Cup in '70 against, yup, the Blues, and of course we all know who was on the wrong end of that Adam Vinatieri field goal (the first one)...
