Does my (35 lb) puppy really think... |
|
that I won't notice him crawling up on the couch as long as he does it very slowly?
I used to have a 70 lb shepherd mix that thought he could hide from me by putting his head behind a pillow.
I love the little boogers, but they sure get some odd ideas.

it cracks me up. I'll be ON the couch, and he'll slowly try to crawl up not more than 2 feet away from me. Then acts surprised when I "catch" him.

on me, they (2 of them) thought they were a 250-pound alarm clock, jumping on me to take them for an early morning walk.

to see if you'll scold him. That's what my 60 pound Boxer does. I always have to tell him "no" twice, the stubborn bastard.

he's teething now and his nibbling on me has gotten unbearable. So we had a good 10 minute session tonight with the "choke" collar (it doesn't choke him) and by the end, he was giving me nothing but gentle kisses.
His new trick is not to come when I call him. He's turning it into a game of "catch me if you can". I gotta nip that one in the bud, but I'm not sure how.

9. which kind of collar do you have? |
|
Ours has the one with prongs on it. Choke collars are a great idea when walking the little beasts...I talked with a friend whose lab had to have surgery on its windpipe because it pulled on a leash too much. We had the same problem with my boxer until we changed walking collars. I've put it on my neck before and there's no discomfort unless tension is generated. Then it gets pretty uncomfortable.
As far as the calling...I ignore my dog when he does that. He gives up on the game quickly. Five minutes of isolation is the best punishment for my little attention whore.
Good luck. Your dog is adorable.

17. It's just a simple chain collar... no prongs |
|
So far it seems to work... a simple "snap" on the chain gets his attention.

13. my Step mom has a Deaf Boxer... He understands sign Language |
|
but being a Boxer, he is stubborn as hell. When he doesn't want to "Listen" to you, he simply puts his face in your Direction, but will roll his eyes to the ceiling. Therefore, if he doesn't see you, He isn't listening to you. He is such a Drama Queen. You'll be trying to sign him to sit down and he just looks in your direction, then pitches his eyes heavenward..... "I'm not listening to you!!!"

When we took ours to "puppy training," the trainer called our puppy "the most stubborn pup she's dealt with in 15 years." :D

15. Oh Wakan is wonderful, but damn the dog is bull headed. |
|
He is really smart, but deafer than a stone. He learned how to Bark through living with another big dog, until that point he made noises that sounded rather like Chewie from Star Wars. He is a wonderful creature. He is getting old now, and isn't quite the Puppy he once was, But the memories I have of Wakan just make me giggle like mad.

My 50lb Australian Cattle Dog pup (well, one year old) just starts running from across the room and catapults herself into my chest. We've only had her for about 2 weeks, not long enough to break her of it. We're working on it though.
Hey, Dookus, I need a puppy pic! What's Tucker look like now???

hold down the sofa. Stop being an ingrate and let him do his job! Mine doesn't so much crawl onto the sofa as hunker down in front of it and then launch herself, harrier-takeoff-style, up onto it. The little one stands in front of it and cries until he's picked up. Rotten little boogerheads.

when I first got the little shit, he would sit and whine to be let on the couch. Two nights ago he backed into the kitchen, got a running start, and fucking CHARGED me and landed on my chest.
Yeah, he's growing up.
