Hey Cincinnati DU'ers! Does Adrian Belew still record/perform? |
|
I was a big fan in my Buckeye days, and popped in one of his CD's for the first time in years last night. Haven't heard from him in forever.
BTW, on election night, I will be adding his song "Salad Days" to my celebration mix.

1. I didn't think he actually lived in Cincy. |

Just the other members of the Bears did. Am I wrong on that?
On edit: King Crimson's been pretty active for the last few years; since "the construKtion of light" came out in 2000, they've been doing touring, recording and zillions of side projects. I'm sure he's been up to his eyeballs in Fripp.

4. Actually he's from Wisconsin |
|
Lived in the same town in Wisconsin, Lake Geneva, that the publisher for the original Dungeons and Dragons books was located in.
I know, I'm full of strange trivia. :P

6. No, I only WISH I was. |

I'm just a 30-something who fell head over heels with prog while in high school. I discovered King Crimson about 1987 when a friend of mine brought over their "Discipline" album on cassette. From there I grabbed up their stuff and researched who was in the band.
I've seen Ade perform only one time live, and that was when King Crimson reformed and their first stop on the "Thrak" tour was here in Las Vegas, at the Hard Rock Hotel. Ticket very close to the front was $57 at that time but worth every penny.

On the "Beat" tour and the "Three of a Perfect Pair" tour. Man, those guys are some interesting, abstract, and skilled players. I was most impressed, both times. The Professor

3. He's been playing both solo and with King Crimson for years! |
|
Never stopped playing with Crimson or the "ProjeKcts", and he's been doing solo work as well. He even sat in with Les Claypool once or twice.

I think he lives somewhere around Lake Geneva, WI. At least he used to, as recently as 3 years ago. Crimson released another live album on Fripp's own label. (Not K'Boom. That's live too, in Brazil i think, but i can't remember the name of the last one.) Adrian is on that album and i think it was recorded just last year. The Professor

9. Actually, I believe he lives in Nashville. |
|
I seem to recall Robert Fripp's recent diaries speaking of the latest Crimson lineup rehearsing at Studio Belewbeloid (actually Belew's house) in Nashville. Also, I have several recordings of Henry Rollins talking about going to Nashville to record with Ben Folds and William Shatner, and he said that Ben Folds made a call during the session, and about 45 minutes later, Adrian Belew was in the studio, and Rollins was reduced to a drooling fanboy.

10. Then in fact he's moved. |
|
Or owns more than one house.
I think that's awesome he does some playing on the new Shatner CD. I was already thinking about picking it up, and now it's a must-have. :D

11. The Shatner CD is also worth it for the track with Joe Jackson. |
|
Absolute brilliance. They should put out an alternate single with Joe singing the whole tune.

13. Thanks For The Update |
|
I know for a while there was talk that he had a business interest in Royal Star, which is an enormous studio (nearly 80,000 cubic foot main room) near Lake Geneva when he was living up there. Either that was not true, or he sold out and moved elsewhere to build his own place.
Thanks again. The Professor
