I think Portuguese is the most beautiful language there is. Unfortunately I have not mastered it but I still think it is the best there is.

First, because probably no one else will, and second, because I was lulled to sleep by my grandmother singing to me in Swedish. :D

11. I like the sound of Portuguese. |
|
Knowing Spanish, I can pick up quite a bit of Portuguese, even though most people think it would be Italian that a person who speaks Spanish would understand best.

33. That language has an interesting sound, doesn't it? |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 11:13 AM by Cat Atomic
I heard it for the first time on vacation last year. I'd SEEN it before, of course- on signs and things like that. But I'd never heard it spoken.
I just listened to people speaking it at the train stations and pubs for ages. Really unique sound.

25. English is the most illogical language ever... |
|
That's what's wrong with it...and tring to teach it as a Second language does my head in!!!1
Plus it's such a copycat language...all the good words come from other languages...
(ok, not all the good words, but I don't think DU lets us type the really good English words...lol)
PS: I do actually quite enjoy the English langauge, and find that yes, when used properly it can be an excellent language. But it's not the coolest-that's Japanese. Although swearing in Korean is quite a lot of fun. :)

If you ever have a chance to hear it, it sounds like birds singing. Truly melodious. Many people who hear me speaking it are amazed at how nice spoken Estonian sounds.
There was some language competition, maybe 100 years ago, in which Estonian was voted the second most beautiful language in the world, after Spanish.
Naturally, I'm Estonian-American.

32. Have you ever heard Turkish? |
|
It's hard to top French, but Turkish comes close. It's full of V's and S's.
Spanish is beautiful, too- especially as it's spoken in Spain. It sounds like "chocolate chocolate chocolate chocolate".

It's almost all vowels.
Example: Mahalo a nui loa = "Thank you very much."
The first time I spent a summer session at the Unversity of Hawaii, I stayed in a dorm called "Hale Laulima." The next time, I was in "Hale Aloha Lehua."
