Poll question: Which of these two American cities is greater?
This is a hard choice. I would like to visit these cities some time, I never have.

3. New York by any measurement is greater
New York City has about 8 million people, while Boston has around 600,000
New York City is about 300 square miles, Boston is about 48.

So technically NYC is 'greater'. Wether it is more fun to live in, that is debatable.

*NYC figures for all 5 boroughs -Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.

5. New York is unreal. It's not even a city... it's... it's a hive.
:P

I love New York so much. I went there for the first time last year, stayed for a week, and had a blast every day/night. I'm planning to spend the summer there this year if possible.

New York is like 5 cities stacked on top of each other. I was in this below-ground bar at like... 2AM I guess. It must've started as someone's basement. You could hear the subways going by on the other side of the wall, and people were shoulder to shoulder. Coolest. Bar. Evah.

7. "Almost Anything Goes" by Mighty Mighty Bosstones: NYC seen by Bostonians
It's 4:30 in the morn'
I'm tattered, tired and torn
Trying to keep up the pace,
This ain't my home, this ain't my place
The candle keeps on burning
at this point there's no returning
The policy is clear, anything goes when you are here

Almost anything goes
From the nightclubs to the shows
Almost anything goes
From the haircuts to the clothes
Almost anything goes
From your head down to your toes
Almost anything goes,
Does this place ever close?

I wanna wake up in a city
That likes to go to bed
Where they know what time of day it is
but I'm stuck here instead
The rules are disregarded
So it's time we all got started
Moving at this hyperspeed
This city seems to need

Chorus

Nice place to visit but I don't wanna die here
I stay on my toes wherever I go by

I was killing all my money,
Spending brain cells just as fast
So I'll grab a taxi cab, head somewhere I can crash
"Port authority, driver
Home's my destination
Don't wake me up till we're near
Park Street Station"

Chorus

There's this electric lure that's sometimes so attractive
But I'd rather hang my hat on a hook that's not so active
I was walking on the wild side, I was in that state of mind
The neon lights were bright
but I'll be leaving them behind
Big city of dreams can be a nightmare
A knife, a fork a bottle, a cork I'm outta here

:P

And there is an unusually large amount of wet toilet paper in places you would never expect it to be.

I'll go with Boston simply for the history...but Chicago is the best city, period.

12. I personally prefer Boston.
New York is too big and too populated for me. I live in Philadelphia so Boston seems just the right size to me. Plus it's beautiful and has a lot of history. I also like the people and the accents in Boston. :)

13. Montreal
O.K. It's not an American city, but it is a world class city. European if flavor, friendly, beautiful, safe, sophisticated. I love NY and Boston, but my heart belongs to Montreal.

15. I love them both
I don't think you can really make a comparison. Boston is a small city and it has a whole different atmosphere and character. I love it, I love the old brick sidewalks and the brownstones, I love the history, I love the way it can feel like a small town, I love the neighborhoods. I love the bewildering maze of roads, all winding about in no particular pattern.

New York is wonderful, big, brassy and vast. Manhattan is laid out on a grid - anyone can find their way around. You can get any kind of food from any conceivable place at any time of day. It has great, odd, districts and Central Park is like an oasis. You can walk all day and see so many interesting and incredible sights. It's also very historic but that's a little less visible amid the glass and steel.

They are both great and worth visiting but as someone pointed out, NY is a great place to visit. Boston is a great place to live.

16. Don't compare
a city with a town. Perhaps San fran wd be the best comparison with Boston, while Paris, Rome, or London with New York.
