1. Florence Griffith Joyner?

Memories of '80s fuzzy ... it was definitely Zola Budd who tripped her up, though.

On edit: Now that everyone's posted the right answer, I have to hit myself on the head with a ball-peen hammer and say a whopping DUH. But I DID get Zola Budd right!

3. Mary Decker?
Don't know if she finished the race but she was hyped as gold-medal potential and she was "tripped" by Zola Budd.

7. Mary Decker 1984
Probably the most controversial event occurred when American Mary Decker fell in the 3,000m after a tight pass with Zola Budd (a South African running for Britain). As the 2 collided Decker tripped on Budd's right leg and Budd was cut deeply by Decker's spikes. Budd ended up finishing 7th. In the end, neither Budd nor Decker were actually found to be at fault for the accident, although both made mistakes.

Vanderlei de Lima of Brazil finished with the bronze medal after a man wearing a costume and a sign on his back ran into the race lane, grabbed the runner and pulled him into the crowd.

The Face of Pain

Great runner but events like that were one of the reasons why she never won an Olympic medal
