Red Sox are the Evil Empire now
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/jacob_luft/10/28/redsox.empire/index.html

Great article in SI. I tend to agree. The Red Sox spend so much money on players, they should win every year. They have the highest salary ever to win a World Series. None of their players are homegrown except for Nixon. They even traded away their one icon: Nomar. Expect the number of Red Sox fans to fall next year in droves.

2. Yes, and Shilling urged listeners to vote for Bush.
Was I bummed! All that pulling for Shilling and the Red Sox only to find out that he was greedy Republican.

7. You gotta improve on that one, Sandpiper
Kerry's a rich white guy, too. As are many of his supporters.

8. Let's not kid ourselves here
The majority of rich white guys vote GOP. You know, George's base, the haves and the have mores.

13. Fair enough
But the RWG's don't all drink the GOP kool-aid. Our party would be financially lost without the likes of George Soros, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates (well, he against repealing the estate tax), Bob Rubin and tons of others.

Granted, we still probably lose that demographic 79-21...

And being rich and white doesn't excuse Schilling, either. My main problem with him (apart from disagreeing with just about everything he stands for) is that he's trading on one whole year of Red Sox-hood to inject himself into a tight New England presidential race. Fuck him.

23. Athletes are a different brand though.
A hell of a lot of pro athletes are repubs, and it goes beyond fat contracts and tax breaks. What better party is there for spoiled jocks who, simply because they were born with an ability to play a game well, get a pass on everything from their grades in school, to their behavior off the field, and are encouraged to bully and look down on anyone who is not a member of their tight little cliques. Big time pro athletes embody conservative values.

candidate, (1) the rich, (2) the mean , and (3) the cognitively impaired.

Same with NFL players. Hurts me to see Schilling do that, but he's hardly alone.

3. Something to keep in mind...
Despite Curt Schilling's stupid remarks to vote for Bush, the Sox owners (John Henry, Tom Werner & Larry Lucchino) are big Dem supporters. Last Friday, Werner had a Sox for Kerry Rally in Manchester NH. They do spend a lot on players, but also put their money towards Dems.

6. Well, now they need to take their support from the salons
to the streets. Maybe arrange for 200,000 Kerry/Edwards signs to be waved in Schilldo's face tomorrow at the parade.

Theo's a Kerry supporter as well, IMO.

9. Signs
They had Kerry/Red Sox signs at the Manchester rally. It'd be sweet if we could get some in there tomorrow. We'd probably be shot on sight though.

10. Theo said...
... 'and make sure and vote to make the world a better place on Tuesday' during the celebrations last night. I might be reading between the lines, but I think he meant 'make sure to vote for Kerry!'

12. New England sports fans...
It's easy to be a Pats & Sox fan (not just because of the titles). Both ownership groups (The Kraft family & Henry, Werner, Lucchino) are big Kerry supporters. You can't control all the players, but's it's nice when the people in charge have similar views.

14. Something like Ferrari in Formula One
OK, they were only 21 years without a championship win, but it was very much Sox-like, with seemingly supernatural events and gross incompetence taking turns at preventing them for winning. For a while it looked like not even Schumacher could pull them out of the jinx.

And then the dam collapsed.
